I saw you used an exclamation mark about a month ago, but didn't figure you'd move so fast into smiley-face emoticons.  I always wondered if it'd be you or headmount who cracked first.

RU kidding. I was carving emoticons into park benches 60 years ago. I'm Mr. Trendy compared to Headmount.  :o

I've got a backpack kind of like that but got Barney hanging onto me instead of whatshername. Barney is way better because he can hold an entire six pack. I think if he biffs a landing and does a face drag she might get her girly bits roughed up.

Also, Barney is purple and never asks me if something he's wearing makes him look fat. Then again perhaps that young lady doesn't do that either since she is obviously not fat and not wearing anything.

I'd say Branson is shallow like a fox.  He's figured out a way to get folks to finance his dream home /personal paradise, all the while fooling them into thinking it's "vacation"..

I don't feel sorry for the staff.  The expats I'm sure are well-paid, all single and in their 20's-ish.  Most stay for a few  seasons probably, then leave w/ great stories and more than a few personal contacts w/ the uber-rich: ("Hi, remember me, I taught you to kite-surf 2seasons ago... do have any job openings in your company?").  The locals seem grateful for a job and are probably better-compensated than at other resorts.

Seems silly to spend that much, but the clientele seem to go for  the lack off 'pomposity", as one put it -- the idea of exclusivity, but at the same time being treated like old friends rather than celebrities/tycoons.  I'd wonder if the island would fold though, if Branson were to croak tomorrow.  No longer his "personal island" then.  Seemed like half  the clientele go b/c they want to say they've rubbed elbows w/ Branson.

My takeway is that the place looks really tiny and boring.  The appeal of spending a fortune just to lounge around and have unlimited food/booze isn't there for me.  The sushi kayak looked particularly lame.  That accountant did seem kinda randy, though.  And when I'm old,  I would like 2 blonde personal assistants onhand each day to help me surf the web!!

I would hate to start my massage with one of the skinny "full body" Swedish masseuses, fall asleep, and wake up being pummelled by one of the room maids.

Or, Branson is now a trillionaire, because he's blackmailing all the billionaires.

You would be surprised how money, and lots of it, can change attitudes. We have a family friend who is now in the multi-billionaire class (self made) and he went from being a low profile person to having multiple homes in private enclaves, his own jet, etc. Part of the insulation super wealthy people build around themselves is driven by security; they just cannot hang out anywhere without being at personal risk.

Another friend of ours who is a very good chef works for a Seattle family as their chef. She flies all over the world with them. She had to sign an NDA (non-disclosure agreement) when she was hired and cannot even tell us who she works for. Being super rich is an unimaginable world. The sad thing is that the distribution of private capital is tilting more and more towards a few people holding increasingly large proportion of the private capital in the US.
