Paradise or Prison
« on: May 25, 2015, 06:39:29 PM »
No waves so I vote prison.  Seems all a bit odd of a place to me.  Interesting none the less.

Like being on an ocean liner, but it doesn't go anywhere.  Circumference of the island is around 1.5 miles?

A bit pricey when you could take a lot of cruises instead.

Tarts 'n Moguls with a few decadent politicians mixed in?  Really, Sir Richard, you should have put your funds to better use.

Snore.

Snore for the piece, or for the place?

There are a lot of expensive beautiful places and with rich people in the world. I'm more interested in where Anthony Bourdain goes. He seems to find the beauty in less appealing places and the richness in the people who live in those places. Envy is not worth the time spent on feeling it.
It's not overhead to me!
8'8" L-41 ST and a whole pile of boards I rarely use.

Opps, I guess I needed to clarify more.  No envy.  I thought it was a creepy place.  I thought the piece was interesting,  showing the hollowness of it all.   They should call it Necrotic Island for rotting of the soul.  Not to mention no surf.

Both. A bunch of people who need their fun to be manufactured for them. Branson was practically pimping out his staff in the interview. Sad, and boring.

While this place is absolutely gorgeous, it seems it would become very boring very quickly. While both the BVI and AVI are on my bucket list, if and when I ever make it out to there I want to go where there is some culture.  I’m the kind of person who would prefer to stay in a cheap hostel rather than an exclusive resort.  RB is an interesting guy and he seems like a pretty likable and to some degree down to earth guy for a self-made billionaire but I just don’t see the appeal of this place.  Hypothetically even if I were to somehow score an all paid free stay at this place (and I would probably go) I just don’t see sharing any common ground with any of the guests who have the kind of disposable income to afford a weekend here.  They are the kind of people who think people like me aren’t worth the toilet water they piss in.

I've been dragged to places like that on "corporate retreats". People changing their clothes five times a day--and not because they got them wet or sweaty. Constant eating and drinking. Boring, boring, boring.

I have more fun on a random Tuesday cleaning my shop than they have all week. It's not really the money, they'd be boring if they were poor. I have the same problem with cruises. Not for me. Stay off the tour bus. That's a big bus.

Thought that was interesting to see how some people have - "fun" - and how RB lives.  Very odd all of it.

It seemed many of the expats wanted to just go home.

Here is a place that I would totally enjoy for about a good long hour,,,,,,,,,,, okay, maybe two hours.
It takes a quiver to do that.

+1

Ive been in the area and sailed around Necker three different times via sail boat....there are so many more beautiful places than his Island.  Surf is very fickle and hard to find in that area, but there is wind.  I have kited it many a time.

Much prefer Fiji, with "real" watermen and women.

RB  stated in so many words it was a brothel/Caribbean Playboy mansion with a high price access pass. With the modest desperation of some of the staff, it seemed kind of depressing.
