SUP around Hull?
« on: May 16, 2015, 09:01:09 AM »
Anyone interested in a distance paddle around Hull? If I worked it out correctly it's around 9 to 9.5 miles depending on how closely you contour the shore. Not sure how long it would take but would like to have enough time to not feel rushed.
My idea is to park where the seawall ends and put in the other side of the spit on the bay side, then paddle around to the cars. Would be ideal to start slightly before or around high tide to get a ride through Hull gut.
If anyone is interested I can look at the tides to figure out what days would work.

Sounds like fun, I'd actually prefer a little swell so we could play on the ocean side though, I love surfing my 14'er..... :)

Yeah it would definitely be a touring pace. I've got a 14 foot board that isn't a race board, and I'm not a racer. More to just get going for the season. A weekend day works best for everyone? I think it's going to be around a six hour thing, maybe a little less on the water but depends on the weather, at least that's how much time I'm going to block off. A calm day would be ideal, which would mean an early start would be best. And if there's any type of surf on the outside even better, can surfari it back, lots of places to catch rides.
If the weather is crap can figure out an alternative venue that might be a better surf spot, or maybe a one way with shuttle, if things go that way.

I have access to a large quiver of SIC touring/racing/DW boards available if anyone wants to try something new.

So the 30th or 31st, high is at 9:50 and 10:35, either day would work for me depending on the weather. Could start two hours before high tide to get a good start on the day. Otherwise can't make it until the 13th or 14th, when high tide is 9:10 or 10:10.
If any of these days sounds good post and we can try and agree on a date and meeting time.
Only concern of mine is paying for parking, but an early start would hopefully net parking spaces.

So if I'm looking at the forecast correctly, Sunday the 31st is going to be windy as hell. Will keep an eye out for the future dates and see if a better window presents itself.

Johnnysmoke, Excellent call. Was going to pm mrbig regrets blah blah. Still interested when this ridiculous wind tunnel changes.

Not an oceanogropher, but methinks the ice nine past winter has a lot to do with the weird and crappy spring so far!

Yeah I hope this doesn't get too complicated hunting for a suitable day. Might be worth while thinking about a one way up the coast and set up a shuttle.

A downwinder would be preferable to me. I can fit 6 boards on my truck for a shuttle.
