Hot Dawn Patrol Surf Session on Cape Cod
« on: April 25, 2015, 06:44:59 PM »
beasho "pay forward" cam sees action again... this time in waves.

It was a hard day to wear a head mounted GoPro.... it fell off a lot while paddling out, but I got some good moments while it was in place.

I got some good action from the morning crew, but I had it on the wrong setting for filming my rides... too narrow field to pick up the lip. Better next time.

Definitely needed my Prowave this session... a bit too sucky for my 10'6 Alana  ;D

Nice, yew!  Love your stoke Rick and visiting with your crew. The uncut paddle back out showed nicely the price that needs to be paid to enjoy the beach break beauties.

And a big thanks for getting this corner of the zone back on track!

Looks like the NorEasters are back in action. Creek, you can get a whole session of fun in a short vid.

This last thursday was cold for Santa Cruz, wind chill and cold water, but probably Tahiti compared to Cape Cod.

My neighbor and I were complaining like spoiled kids.

Hey Creek,
I know the wider angle setting captures the lip, but it also flattens the wave out. A 5' to 6' day looks like knee slappers with the wide (170 deg) angle. I think the medium-wide (127 deg) setting gives you a more realistic view of the wave size. I'm thinking that was the setting you had?
I just changed mine to that setting, but I haven't tried it out yet.
It's not overhead to me!

Rick That was a fun watch!

Don't know what I enjoyed more...the Doors paddle out or the tube ride

Enjoyed that.....those waves look like they could do a bit of boat munching.

Thanks boys.... i was worried about the paddle out sequence, I thought it might make people dizzy  ;D
But I figured that it gives a little perspective of whats involved for people just grazing.
It took longer cuz I had to keep fixing the headband every time I got whacked  :o

TD... ha ha.... you got that right! I just q-celled filled the sanded down area ... tomorrow glass goes on ;D
also, the angle I had the cam at usually was perfect with my old cam... I will have to adjust it up a bit higher and mess with the settings.
I just don't don the headmount that often cuz I look like a miner searching for a pot of gold..... and I never use it when it's that lippy... too much work.

Cheat, we're in action all year, but I make more paddle vids than surf vids unless I have a board to review. Feel free to send me one  ;)

This cam works better than the last one and I had better luck filming others from inside... so maybe they won't heckle me if I wear it more :)

Yeah, I know, you guys go out in gales, icebergs and hurricanes, the more the merrier.

I channeled your YouTube footwork today at Sharks Santa Cruz on my Vernor.  It works, I moved my back foot from rail to rail and did some compression to turn back and forth.  My body finally decided to cooperate with the gesture.

I like to take the Vernor out once in a while to get my balance confidence back.  My muscle memory is closing in on the Prowave for strictly standup, but it is taking a while.  I still have those spots in the four to eight o'clock position where I stiffen up on the Prowave and keel over like a tasered goat.  My body really needs to learn the counter response.

I kind of know the counter response, drop on bent knees and step up, I just can't get the bod to do it yet as a reflex.

Nice video Creek, with some sweet looking waves and great crew.

I may be back on the East Coast on business next month and am tempted to come up your way to see it all in person.  I don't think I own anywhere near enough gear for the cold water there though....You guys are hardcore!

Awesome vid Rick.  The uncut paddle out was more painful than the circumcised version... you put us right in the washing machine with you.

Kernel, I have more suits than Ms. Marcos had shoes. Are you a large, medium, or small dude? We will hook you up. Besides the water is positively tropical now!

Thanks Mr. Big....very gracious....I usually wear a large regular which leaves a little room; that may not be a good idea for the water temps at your spots.

If my trip next month actually goes, then I'll see what I can do to make a push up north.  I of course am willing to reciprocate here on the Left Coast....
