I like the width on those Blue Planet blocks. I picked these up at a local shop for maybe $20 if I remember correctly. Use them almost daily year around and never had an issue even with multiple boards.....though if I did have to travel any distance in the rain I might choose something else. To Pono's point, water will come in eventually.

(I may have posted these before?)

This thread is very timely.  I just found out I'm traveling next week to S. Fla for business and will be renting a car.  As I'm still searching for a used allround SUP, I was excited that this travel would open up another market for me where I could look for used boards.  Then I realized I wouldn't have my 4Runner with me and would have to rig a rack system on the rental.  So I came here to read on the soft racks and this is great info.

Cool.  The Blue Planet ones are $24, I think, but then there's $12 shipping.

Yes, we sell the two 30" x 4" x 4" EVA foam blocks for $24, which is a great deal.  The $12 shipping fee is what it costs us to send them by priority mail in the US, or you can come to Honolulu and pick them up at the shop  :)

Back to the handirack and highway driving.

I understand that the soft rack is attached to the car via straps thru the windows and attaches inside.  And I like the idea of an additional bow/stern strap attached under the bumpers.  But is the board best to be strapped down to the sofkrack itself, or do you also put those straps thru the windows?  I guess you'd need something pretty long if that's the case.

I think you just strap the board to the softrack, but I'm just making sure.  I have the NSI bungie straps and I think they would be ok for going to the rack, but not going thru the car.
