Boy do I miss that place.  Great shots. Thanks for posting.

I lived on Maui 86'- 90'

I had some magical days at the bay.  Maalaea too, although much less frequently.

The girl almost looks like little Mahina? But I think she live on Oahu.
It's not overhead to me!
8'8" L-41 ST and a whole pile of boards I rarely use.

Can you explain the title ("5' Paddle Shaft") and how you got the shots? Are those from a paddle-mounted camera? The vantage point looks higher off the water than that. And I thought SUP was not welcome at Honolua.

At any rate, great photos!

I recognize the girl and the board. I see her at S-turns and Little Makaha sometimes. Excellent surfer, very graceful.

Yer correct, no SUP at Honolua.

DK gave me a carbon fiber SUP shaft and I glassed in a gopro mount at the end.  The camera really distorts the photo to make it look higher than it really is.  I can't wait for next winter to break it out at the outside north reefs when it gets juicy, those pics are going to make it look XXXL.

Lots of altruism there.  Gets me thinking about doing this for my 'prone' friends.  It should work holding up the paddle, a la DJ style.  However you have to mix it up in the break zone and our water is currently 49 degrees.

I could have snapped a bunch of cool shots today.  Same swell was hitting here and for 30 minutes, just 30 minutes, it LIT up.  I was out with 6 prone guys and the waves were throwing in the 7 - 9 foot range.  Otherwise it was good, but not as good as that quick firestorm of wave activity.

What I especially like is how you are using the wide angle disadvantage to the advantage from above the wave to make it look deep.

Super cool!
