starboard issues!!!
« on: April 17, 2015, 10:31:50 AM »
Hi everyone!!!
I have a technical query regarding my partners Starboard paddle board.
She has had it for about 18 months as it replaced her previous starboard under guarantee because the surface started blistering. And guess what 18 months later the new one is doing the same!!!
My question is " why is this!" What are we doing wrong! It is kept in the cover in a purpose built store! We are at a loss. Mine is kept in its cover in my garage and is done being a circle one board!! If it's the way we are storing it then we need advice or shall I get in touch with starboard to have a cheeky moan??
Thanks for reading this and any advice is greatly appreciated!!

A board doesn't 'blister', as in having raised areas from the existing surface without an external cause. So operator error is in play. It's getting to much heat from somewhere. Either where you store it, how and how long you leave it on the beach, or long transit. It's not a manufacturing error, but a dark color board or lack of proper venting can make it more prone to heat damage.
It's not overhead to me!
8'8" L-41 ST and a whole pile of boards I rarely use.

I do not store any of my SUPs or windsurfers in bags,  because I think they need to breath and it can get much hotter inside the bag than you think.  Store them on racks in a cool place like your garage and get rid of the bags, you'll be much better off.  Also, don't store inside your car if you can help it, also gets too hot there.

I've seen em blister when left wet in a board bag. They get hotter than you think and it causes it to basically steam the paint to the point where it blisters. Don't put your wet~ass board in a bag unless you plan to take it out later so it can properly dry... Paddle on, JD

does your board have a vent screw?  these should be released if the board is stored in high heat, or any major temp/altitude changes... that being said, I barely ever unscrew mine and haven't had any issues.

Pics maybe?
