I didn't watch the second video. The second video is better. He definitely has paddle skills as well. Every time he takes off deep and goes for speed, he drops the paddle to his outside hand. So he's sup surfing but not using his paddle for the rest of the wave. He's ripping and getting some serious barrels, so he's only using the paddle to take off. When he needs to focus on speed and getting that high line, the paddle is just in the way. Great surfer and paddler. I've been barrel in my day, but nothing like that, and never on a sup.
Jess Leedy does shred........ ::) You guys are right! Ok... Jeeezzz.

I'm back to my Aloha mode bruddah.

It's not overhead to me!
8'8" L-41 ST and a whole pile of boards I rarely use.

He is good AND he has good taste in music.  Sings in a punk band also but not sure of the band's name.

seems jess leedy can do whatever he wants with his paddle, and has chosen his style--which clearly rips

We all want to be Jess.  The guy is a crazy charger. Was he a short board pro?

My limited experience in tubes, usually a surprise and more often than not, one way, the paddle becomes an unwanted extremity. It's the only time we don't really need it and it's more or less in the way.

Waves like these are real board eaters.

love it! board seems to turn fine without throwing out the stabilizer.  i hate seeing someone stabbing away at a poor wave like they need to check how deep it is.  imo  ;D

I think the guy has a more fluid style than many of the big name kids out there. That said, we are stand up PADDLE surfers, so I also enjoy good paddle technique. Both competent surf and paddle skills are part of the style IMO.

Can't teach an old dog new tricks!  Most proners (myself included) dragged the backhand to slow down when under the green curtain so I bet it was just an old habit.  The guy shreds!

Now if a guy in his 40s or 50s can do that, I'd be even more inspired.

No reason he couldn't, if he wanted to put in the time.

The thing I liked about these videos that I don't see a lot of when good surfers are showcased on SUP is the amount of beating he took while catching those waves.
