Elictric skate board - great cross trainer
« on: March 31, 2015, 06:36:50 PM »
I have been looking at electric boards for a while and found this Fiik to be a winner.  It took me a while to embrace the pneumatic tires but now I am a firm believer in them.  There is  so much energy in the LiFePO batteries that the increased rolling resistance is a non issue.  Combine that with the ability to  bomb into grassy medians to avoid traffic, roll over man hole covers and steel grates, sticks , rocks etc.,  makes it a huge safety enhancement.  Highly recommend.  It's the ultimate non impact exercise, as long as you avoid the big impact.

if it's electric, where does the cross training and exercise come in?

Ok if you carve turns for an hour straight you will get a workout to your abs and legs that you wouldn't with a conventional skate board. Kinda like snow skiing, a lot of abbs and quads.

I want one.  Perfect for cruising the bike path in Newport and Huntington this summer.  Pricey though.

i want one too but i think the temptation to let the motor do all the work would be too great for me to get much cross training/exercise/quads-and-abs benefit out of the thing.  plus, yeah, they're way pricey.   pretty cool, though.

I've had my eye on the Yuneec E-GO. Much lighter at 14lbs than the Fiik Street Surfer at 48lbs (that's really where the cross training comes in). Also cheaper at $699 with Li-ion vs the Fiik at $1430 with LiFePO. Similar range around 15 miles.

Consider a onewheel.  Much more like surfing IMO.

As shown in the video, the one-wheel looks great on any downhill or gently sloping surface.
But I'm guessing any incline would kill the battery quickly?
And unlike a skateboard, you can't ride it home once the battery's gone..  ???

Cool, but pricey!
Personally, I love my Ripstik for cross training on land. Quite the workout up moderate hills, great carving on flats or slight downhills. Can do full apex carves too.
Semper Fi!

It's simple, either you get the wave or the wave gets you.

I looked into those one wheels. An ingenious set up no doubt, but they are very slow, 10-12 max and  squirrely at that speed.  Also very limited range because no space for a large battery.  Like 3-miles.  Fiiks top out at 22 and are stable at that speed, the large battery gives a range of 12 miles easy.  I get a lot of questions about it and I have started to refer to it as a one person car.  The ability to blast up to speed to avoid trouble and divert at will onto bumpy, roached out side walks and over grass dirt or sand is what makes this so "usable".

Whether it's feasible is 2ndary..  They made .$6M off their kickstarter.
I'd drop $100K on R&D and then just close up shop.  ;D

@Zoo - Race ya!

@ Spookini - That seems to be a prevalent harvest strategy on any crowd funding site these days.
