Seeing I recently had surgery, I was doing some surfing at Trail 6 this morning... vicariously:(
I saw two SUPs to the south. The lefts in front of the guard tower was the place to be.
Even the dolphins liked it.
It's not overhead to me!
8'8" L-41 ST and a whole pile of boards I rarely use.

I didn't surf this morning but at Brookhurst it was HH+ and pitching. Watched a few proners pull off 3 second barrels. The current was brisk south to north.

Absolute epic day for me.  Probably one of my best surf sessions ever.  So many long rides with little cover ups, it was sick!

The current was really strong today.  I found myself having to paddle constantly just to stay in position on my 7'4 and getting up current was a chore.  Probably should have brought a bigger board.

Yep the current was strong where I was too.  That's what was great, I could paddle at a smooth pace and hold position on the peak or paddle past it.  The ocean buoys (aka proners) were just swept aside, advantage SUP :).

I was out at Newport Point, about 18th street this morning.  Not as big as HB, head to 1-2 foot overhead, but extremely juicy.  Lips pitching out past the bottom of the wave, spitting on occasion.  Mostly walled with a few corners, wave selection was critical.  I got a few juicy rides, but paid for it often by getting drilled, pitched and punished.  Current was intense.  It was fun.

Wife, son and niece went out at Doho today.  Son took the long hammer and had some massive drops, but the long hammer is a bit shorter afterward.  Oh well, God works in mysterious ways... ;)

Looks like some DOH or more Ralph.  Get some?

p.s.  Cardiologist said go slow but go.  I think his last name is pronounced Aikau.  See you all soon.

Hey Slatch..really good to hear from You !

Today I timed it almost right.
Went through 3 waves on the attempted speed paddle out...
Got knocked off on the first 2 and penetrated the third..
Picked off the Outside Bombs for a couple hours.
No problem keeping up with the drift.
I chose wisely and made / exited off the back of every wave until..

Last wave was a drainer.
Pulled into the slot and chased it for what felt like 3 seconds.
Starting to Clamp so I popped out as the lip crash behind me.
Was able to stay with the white water until something caught my edge.
Ass-under and somersaulted. Got disoriented and let go of the paddle..
popped up and there was .. Grabbed it and half mounted the tail
just before the next wave hit..bouncy ride in..let go of the paddle to hold on.
Took a while to locate the paddle once on the beach..it had drifted 100 yards down the beach..

The Naish Hokua 9'10" GS has good paddle speed and heavy enough to hold it's own on these
Double Over Head + Beach Break Waves..

Sure was nice not getting my leg pulled by the leash..Belt works.

Ralph, some of those look easy DOH+, with shape too!  Sounds like you just made it out alive... know that feeling ;D

According to my son, My wife was picking off one of the last waves in most every big set that would come through, while he would take a good one and get pounded on the inside as the set emptied out.  My niece just went out to paddle and catch the leftover small ones far away from the break.  I was at the doctors, but I watched them before on the surfcam on surfline.

Thanks Mike.  Still want to be around long enough to see you on that Jammer.
