i'm baffled by the abundance of guys out there with Go-Pros. the videos are unwatchable. i don't care whether its mounted to your paddle, your hand or head, your board, whatever...those are BORING videos and really reveal nothing about a board, the rider, or the waves. i've never once considered wasting time or money on such devices, and when a video comes up from one, i turn it off immediately. i'm beginning to think no one has enough brain capacity out there anymore to actually remember what they did, so they have to record it, regardless of how dull it may be.  Monday morning rant...

Are you trying to say you don't like Go Pros?  ;D

I am baffled by his rant..of course it was Monday morning.   ;D

To each his own, but I think this thread and others recently support that many Zoners like these videos so please keep posting them guys, Beached you can just look the other way.
I have posted a few, and personally they were exciting at first having never seen myself surfing in a video despite surfing over 40 years. I also filmed them to show fellow Zoners where I surf and how I get around the island as many have asked me that over the years.
For me the  novelty of the Go Pro has worn off some, and I find it too much of a hassle at times, but they are pretty amazing little cameras.

OK... using that approach, I went with Beached's post and swapped the word "GoPro" for another item, that some around here enjoy.
Let's see how it plays:

beached rant... with the subject changed:

i'm baffled by the abundance of guys out there with SUPs. SUPs are unwatchable. i don't care whether you're old and have injuries...SUPs are BORING and really reveal nothing about the rider, or the waves. i've never once considered wasting time or money on such devices, and when a SUP shows up, i immediately look away. i'm beginning to think no one has enough brain capacity out there anymore to actually surf what they did in the 80's. so they have to ride a SUP, regardless of how dull it may be.  Monday morning rant...

What baffles me, is haters, of any kind....  but especially the insulting kind.

mrbig..... I vote YES. ....wait... what was the question?

Looks like there is a poll. I hope people respond. I like videos, the point of view in a lot, perhaps the majority, of go pros  doesn't float my boat So what, kinda like many things in life, diversity points of view different than mine. I am puzzled, for example, why the character assassination so common in our political system is as popular and rampant as it seems to be on Capital Hill.

Insulting and belittling folks who express differences of opinion is not part of the solution but a major part of the problem in DC...

OBTW I loved the Jimmy Lewis clip. Wide angle point of view..Looking at waves being ridden and I could see it all..

I'll take the Jimmy Lewis clip over almost any board mount clip.

Wow, at least we could see an actual wave and someone trying to paddle into it. That was awesome. The guy on the board wasn't very good but the scene and POV was first class.

The responsibility is on US ALL to NOT post this crap. I apologize for even bumping the thread.

I am reluctant to  negatively criticize video but the reality is most video is below average in everyone else's mind.

The first video looks like the the guy's mother strung together a few clips in iMovie and was awed that she actually had a video record of something.

For better, or for worse, the bar keeps getting raised on what is good video.  The action has to be better, the angles more impressive.  DJ's downwinder mounts were super revolutionary.  I especially liked his windsurfing boom angle.  Kalama's is just OK now by comparison.   M

Like anything else the more time and practice you have the better the video is going to be.  Typically a good production will incorporate multiple sessions and roughly 3 - 4 hours of editing per minute of video.  When I put together Thank The Laird I spent 2 months collecting footage with a paddle mount which was pretty rare at the time.  I then spent 15 hours editing.  When I uploaded the final version, at 2 am, I had a beer and smiled because I knew it was a winner.

I am now intimidated by the work I know it will take to raise the bar once more.  Maybe all it would take is a solo session at Mavericks with clean 30 footers and multiple drone angles synced to a paddle perspective while I catch waves going left and right wearing my college hockey jersey and a gorilla mask, or maybe a tuxedo . . . maybe a tandem ride with my dog ??  ::)

Shameless repost  8)

That's a great vid Beasho....posted that up on our Scotland SUP Facebook page

That's a terrible analogy, STC!  i stand by my OPINION (cuz that's all it is) that Go Pros are useless. I think I'm allowed to hate something like that, right?

Geez, don't ever remember having negative thoughts about review vids. Do they still make film 🎥 movie cams?

Coldy said it best - "You don't need to watch if you don't want to...simples."

And to bring it ALL the way back to the Jimmy Lewis vid. I liked it because it showed a new board that is small being ridden by ordinary dudes in horrible waves in black and white!

Is the Super Tech a viable option in gutless waves??

Check again. It's not black and white.

After watching it again, the guy does appear to know how to surf. It's probably his first time on the Super Tech and in waves without much juice. The board isn't really suited for those waves. I'd like to see how the World Wide would do in comparison.

I wonder what that yellow buoyed line is all about. It's obviously not a swim area.

As I stated before, good GoPro footage is all about the perspective.... and content.

That's a good board it looks like he was too far out at first, maybe a little too high tide?
