Just looked at the stats of your 10 2 ....that is a big beast.....I would deffo try and demo before making that big jump down in size. Nothing worse than really struggling for ages and getting fed up.....if you get out loads and have fitness on your side then you will cope but be prepared for a learning curve.

The 10'2 was killing me in the end on prolonged surf sessions and was a pain to turn! My skills aren't great anyway.

I'm a little mindful of dropping down a lot of litres with a new board but would also like a board that would stay with me more than a season.

Will have to have a chat with Matt at suphut this weekend for his advice.

The problem in Wales is the lack of places to demo boards unfortunately!

+1 for the 8'9" World Wide.  A few more liters to aid you in your big jump down, Super, high quality construction, lighter per unit of volume, and a good surfing pedigree.  Demo if you can, but have a look close look at the options.  Look closely at the weight's of the boards....which is hard to get. I've found that the standard Jimmy Lewis construction is a good weight, and well priced for that weight and quality.  With most production board companies it seems the carbon boards are light, but very expensive. Their standard construction boards are less expensive, but really, pretty heavy. Weight matters in catching smaller waves, and maneuverability.....fast to paddle, and less swing weight.  Also, when comparing, be sure everyone is giving you the same weight....meaning, with fin and pads, or without.  Good luck, have fun with the search.

The Allwave at 8 11 is the heaviest and probably about or over 10 kg.

The JP 8 8 is just over 9kg

The JL 8 9 is 8.5 kg.

Doubt you will get to demo the latter two boards...and you might have to travel to demo an Allwave.

The JL beats the other two IMHO....stable, good rails, and a mixture of performance and ease of use....and the five fin set up. I wouldn't sell my JP 8 8 though as it is a great board but if it was a toss up on the three of them the JL is a winner for me. For you....it is a mid way between the volume of the Allwave and the JP. The JL dealer is in South England but Matt, who sells JP and Fanatic is of course closer to home and will put you on the right board if he sees your surfing ability.

At the end of the day, all three boards are good....two of them will just give you more progression longer term I reckon. Enjoy picking😀

yep, if i have any issue with the all wave, it's that i expected it to be lighter--weighed in at 21 lbs+ with fins--and mine is the ltd.

seems heavy compared to other comparable production carbon boards of close dimensions and volume.

feels light on the water and carrying, and the board has generally been excellent--so nbd
