Does it really matter that much?
« on: March 21, 2015, 07:28:27 PM »
I have been keeping tab on my paddling since I got a Canmore G102 GPS.
Coupled with GpsPro software, I check on my speed for every paddle.

I have kept the following data:
1) average speed over the paddle removing any break
2) average speed of the three best km - a measure of a consistent effort
3) average speed of the three best 100m - a measure of what my top speed is

While there are not that many data, I am slowly building up the information a week-end at a time.
This has been mostly flattish water with one exception open ocean and one exception lake.

I have attached summaries.

I noted:
1) I am slow at 8km/h top speed - not much of a surprise there
2) I am faster with the Konihi 95 than with the Olala 84 - I am not a fast cadence paddler so it might make sense
3) the fin does not seem to make much a difference at my level for flat water

Cheers,

Luc

The speed bump from a Konihi for flatwater is something that people have to measure to believe. I've stopped telling people about it, everyone thinks it's all about the board.
Foote 10'4X34", SIC 17.5 V1 hollow and an EPS one in Hood River. Foote 9'0" x 31", L41 8'8", 18' Speedboard, etc. etc.

So Bill you think that the speed bump has more to do with being a Hooloa versus a Konihi rather than be a 84 versus a 95?
I would love to try and compare a Konihi 84 with my Kohini 95 but finances be what they are and the USD 25% higher than the CAD....
