Hammer WindSUP Planing Video
« on: March 02, 2015, 07:32:53 AM »
Fun day out windSUP’n on the 8’11″ Hammer windSUP with mast track option…really fun board…planes up comfortably…sails like a dream…embodies all of the elements of the ultimate holy grail “one design”…SUPer cool…once you rip downwind…you can easily get back to your upwind starting point…;-)

TO DA HAMMER EVERY PLAYDAY IS A NAIL…;-)

http://youtu.be/_0QmOG4nD1s

The Hammer windSUP is the ultimate watertoy…paddle it…surf it…sail it…

The best all around SUP on the market. This innovative, game-changing board can be ridden 8″-12″ shorter and 1″-2″ narrower than most SUP’s without sacrificing glide or stability.  The copious amount of concave adds lots of lift to the nose area and tail reducing drag creating the fastest all water board that you will ever paddle, surf, or sail…

A very efficient bottom design and more parallel rails increase glide and improve tracking…but, we have also doused it with some special mojo awesome sauce that will help to salivate your taste buds…;-)

Is Hammer it's own brand (couldn't find anything from a Google search) or is this a model series of SUPsports?

Aloha surf4food,
The Hammer is one of our SUP model series...we have 10 production models in the series...including two high quality soft top models...
We are also deeply involved in producing California built custom SUP Sports ® Hammers...as well as our 15 other production SUP models...and, custom variants of those...plus, the Jammer and Mallet SUP models...

I searched on "Hammer SUP" and a Google search filled the whole first page with our Hammer...and, nothing else...

Thanks SUPsports.  I should rephrase.  I didn't mean nothing came up from the search, but rather no actual brand called Hammer.  You answered my question well.  Anyway they look like cool boards.  Ironically I was just up there in SB a couple months ago but didn't have a chance to see your shop.  My wife and I will likely be heading up there for Summer Solstice so we will definitely pop in there.

Wouldn't be the Mallet an even better Windsup, if it has less rocker than the Hammer?

Aloha Alex...good observation...;-)
Check out the rocker lines compared to a couple of my fast slalom windsurf boards...amazingly, pretty much same or even less rocker...

The Hammer is such a great WindSUP because it has some waterline...which helps AOA...(angle of attack)...but, if you stuck a mast track and some foot straps on the Mallet...hmmm...seems like definitely some planing possibilities...;-)

http://blog.surfingsports.com/2015/01/mallet-sup-2.html

I was riding the 7'6" & 7'8" Mallets in this vid clip...as fast, or faster than the Hammer...again, very fast rocker line...but, a longer Hammer is gonna paddle back to the top of the lineup faster...would have to do apples to apples comparison...7'11" Hammer vs. 7'11" mallet or 8'5" Hammer vs. 8'5" Mallet would be interesting...

Here's a good look at the Hammer rocker line in action that I filmed from the Mallet in vid clip above...

Hi Warren,

since you, me and some other Knights of the Temple are on the search for the holy grail since some years, this in my opinion is the only way to match the needs of windsurfing and SUP, low rockered simmons like shapes.
On my search i had affairs with some maids like Tabou Windstyler (Steptail), RRD Wassup 10' (low rockered but too stiff), JP Surf 9'6 (too much banana) and currently AHD Sealion XL.
The Sealion is so far the best compromise but planing and turning still could be better, while i'd like to keep the stability of the baord since i weigh 200 pounds.
A mallet 8 x 31 could be the ticket, maybe.
But i live on the other side of the planet an have no chance of getting one of your boards.
In my neighbouhood lives a keen custom builder, but he has no experience in SUP shapes, so risk ist to high in my eyes to let him built something like the mallet or hammer.

Aloha Alex,
Nice to meet a fellow searcher of the Holy Grail...;-)

Agree with you regarding 8' Mallet...seems to me a visit to Santa Barbara is in order for you my friend...;-)

Does your keen custom builder have access to a CNC machine? Namely, Shape 3D compatible?
Maybe I could license a copy of my Mallet file to you and he could build it there in Germany for you?

Hi Warren,

good idea to visit you in SB, i'd really like to :-)
Maybe one day, i've got some friends at work who regularly stay around the LA area testing cars, but i don't know if it would be possible to put a board in a car for the flight back with all the carnet custom stuff etc.

Cool idea to get CNC data from you !!
I'll check back with my custom builder if he could use CNC data, he's very good in reproducing exact copys of serial boards and his main job is building tools, casts and parts in/for composite technology e. g. for prototype parts for our automotive industry so working with CAD-data shouldn't be a problem for him.
I come back to you via PM, ok?

Regards, Alex

Regarding the size of the board, what would be your suggestion?
The board should give me (90 kg, 200 lbs) the same stability in our choppy waves like my current Sealion XL which s 9' x 29.75, 150 liter.

For the Hammer i guess the 8"11 or mybe 8'5" (it's 31" wide) should be perfect.
Would a 8' Mallet have the same stability?

Alex
