Yet another Tomo inspired custom, hand shape by Cronin
« on: February 28, 2015, 02:54:06 PM »

This 8x30 @ 128L just came in yesterday at my local shop (GUSU). I've only had a chance to paddle in flat water and catch some ankle biters. Stepped down from a 9x33@149L, and this is almost as stable. It is light, construction is solid. Hopefully we get another descent swell soon. I will be taking it to Jacksonville's Poles in late March.

Cool looking board.  Looks kind of Gothic and almost like it is made of metal.  Looking forward to a ride report.

Thanks! Can finally test it in some waist high stuff rolling in Friday/Saturday. Hopefully I get some good video.

Caught a few shoulder to head high rides today in a local surf comp. It was mushy, but I still had some steep drops. So I chose thruster setup, center fin back.

Paddling around: It is not as stable as my 9x33 like I thought it was. And with the afternoon chop I pretty much have to keep it moving. But for its size, I think it's stable. It was surprisingly easy paddling through white wash, and I'm really liking the nose.

Surfing: Wasn't catching as far out as I thought I could. The times I did make it to the bottom and executed a turn I lost it. It turns "on a dime" according to one of the advanced riders who tried it. I'm just not use to the performance yet. I probably have to dig the rail in more, maybe try it quad in those conditions next time. Hope to get a better wave count next time.

So far I am happy. Its going to be a challenge learning this board. And probably going to be a great board for the small mushy days that frequent here.

bb.... curious, what style was your 9 x 33? Traditional, pointy nose thruster or something else.
I am interested because of your experience in the chop. Thanks

The difference in stability is not drastic, but very noticeable. I'm evaluating getting a large set of quads to stiffen it up
