I drove over the Santa Ana River on PCH about 3:00.  The water at the shore was the beautiful color of the ocean.  The river appeared as it does most days.
Similar to what others have said about this river, most of the year it doesn't have any measurable water flowing in it.

I'm a little skeptical over some aspects of that water measurement.  I've been checking OCBeachInfo for a long time and have noticed that as soon as there is measurable rain, they turn every location yellow.  (Yellow signifying elevated bacteria levels) That seems too general and I'm suspicious of a little BS.  I'm not convinced that they run out and take measurements at every spot the moment it rains, and I'm suspicious that they just automatically turn the spots yellow, then actually measure at their regular intervals.  If they were actually measuring when they turned the spots yellow, River Jetties, and similar bad spots, would go yellow first and then the problem would fan out.  Similarly, locations furthest from the runoff would improve first.  None of that happens.  The site is still useful, but I take their measurements with a grain of salt.

I feel the same way. I think they only do spot sampling when there was a "known spillage".

Is Newport working with the current swell direction? SSW?

I've been sick for the last three days btw. I have no idea what caused it, I really don't wanna say that it was from surfing after rain, I wanna blame it on someone else but I haven't been next to anyone who was sick neither. Finally feeling better now so I wanna try paddling out tomorrow morning.

Newport has been good.  A little walled in many places.  Sending you a PM
