ok..... I was hypothermic today.
« on: February 27, 2015, 02:54:54 PM »
The waves were great, the air in the car park was the usual 20 degrees, but the wind backed of and the sun felt great.
People walking their dogs on the beach, all smiling and happy.

But the water was frickin' bone numbing cold. stupid cold. thought I broke my fingers off cold. One hour and I was done.... and I DO NOT GET COLD. Maybe I need more than my 4/3. ???
Bunch of SUPsters and proners out, everyone was all smiles and stoke... there is a brotherhood when it's really cold.

2 Brendan carving a great bottom turn on his Starboard Pro SUP

3 NEsurfSUP (red board) got a lot of great waves

4 I had a blast till my body shut down... then it was off to the toasty parking lot to change when your hands don't work anymore ;D

Creek, nice session......fingers finally thawed enough to type.  I finally broke down an tried your washing machine rinse and drier protocol, and am now ready for another chill session  tomorrow.  Swell is suppopsed to drop, but still might be some waves.  At least the slush from Nantucket hasn't worked its way around the corner.

Creek, you guys are hard core!  I'm not sure I would brave the surf in those temps.  Do you ever surf in a dry suit?

Zoo... I am 100% too lazy to put on a dry suit. I surfed 3 hours 2 days ago and it was fine.... today the world chilled when Mr Spock went through the worm hole.

SeaMe.... those frozen waves are only 30 miles south of us  ;D

Pretty good crew out today.

Heck, I have been wearing a 4/3 ripcurl ebomb with an impact vest around Santa Cruz with water temps in the high 50s to 60 and air temps high 50s to 70s.  Nothing clears the breaks out around SC more than air temps plus wind chill into the 40s.

On those "colder" days for here, my hands would get cold with wind chill even with gloves I found that dipping my hands and feet into the water warmed them up because water temps were still in the high 50s.

Yeah, we are fair weather wimps out here.  The ebomb is pretty easy to take on and off, otherwise I would just be in shorties.

I can't begin to see how a 4/3 would work back East right now.

Nice to see so many out!I'm still on the DL hacking up chunks...

OTW it takes me a whole hour just to get full circulation and to regain feeling in my dead stump hands

If I make it that long I'm good for hours.

No way a 4/3....would be like death

Full 5/4 suit 7 mil mitts and boots. I had a 6/5/4 that I liked even more but shrunk out of it and sold.

I cannot even get my arms around a 4/3 in the type of weather we have been having. Just incredible.

4/3 Mutant and 5mm boots worked Ok this morning, but the 5mm gloves didn't cut it.  My feet didn't get cold until I was standing in the parking lot.  Here is a pic of my icy board..

Gonna wait till the wind backs around more west and softens. Then back at it.... may wimp out and throw on the 5 mil... not great looking waves but I need to get back in the water, to see if it was really that cold.

Hair of the dog.... get back on the horse and all that.  ;D ;D ;D
