Scored a brandy new Surftech RF Universal 11'6" cheap.....Why?
« on: February 26, 2015, 01:19:48 PM »
..of course there is a reason.... It has a ding from shipping.

I was looking to pick up another board for the kids to bang around and have fun on and spotted the Universal at a local shop. Figured I could work it over and get it ready for the water. This will be my first board repair so any advice of the do's and don'ts of working with it would be appreciated. I've done some searching, and watched some videos. I also spotted this repair instructional PDF from the Bic site (photos very pixilated) that seems pretty straight forward...

http://www.bicsup.com/images/pdf/BicSport_DURA-TEC_Repair-Tips_ENG.pdf

Here are a few shots of the ding below. So, should I dig in, or tape it up and keep an eye on it? :)

I'd probably inject a little epoxy into it and throw a sticker over it but that's just lazy me. If it was bigger I'd do the full repair.

I love how this board has a mfg. capacity of a 220+ pound rider.  It could easily handle 440 pounds of Tiny Bubbas on that plank.  This will be a great board for letting any first timers out on the water for a paddle and some splash time. Great score!

That's my first board......been through 5 summers with some river trips on it too and still getting bounced around. That thing has bounced on so many rocks it isn't funny. The thing is bomber. I would never have guessed 38 lbs on it tho. Wow, I don't think mine weighs that much. Heck, I know one of mine is heavier or feels that way if nothing else and one that should be that isn't. Great score.

Looks like it would be a nice straightforward spot your first repair. Check out the Board Lady's site also.
