Downwinder - 3rd Person View Test Vid
« on: February 23, 2015, 04:53:04 PM »
As promised, here is a downwind fix for all those with no or not enough wind.. This is a new POV (at least for me) using a 3rd Person View Camera Mount from Sail Video System. As you can see there is a LOT of wobble, but it does capture the spirit and the conditions.. Not as good as the DJ mount though..

GoPro 4 Silver with Sail Video System 3rd Person View Camera Mount

The key issue is the pole does not fit snuggly in the socket in the waist belt. It came with some masking tape around the male part at the end of the pole, which I stupidly removed. The 2nd issue is that because it is attached to the waist, any forward or backwards movement when paddling into a glide means the whole horizon moves up and down. This of course could be corrected with a 3 Axis Gimbal, which is where I need to go with this.. if only I could waterproof the thing...

This was a marginal day (Force 3-4), so there was a lot of paddling. However, in a big day with lots of gliding this could be nice. Interestingly, this is the first POV with a GoPro where the waves look bigger in the vid that they actually were.. Not sure why..

that's pretty cool. looks like a cartoon with flared out red top, polka dots and slightly askew wobble. pioneering hk and video really 😊😊

Yep, me too.. Just waiting for the day.. The real issue with this POV is getting the set up right. Yesterday conditions were similar and I thought I had the same set up.. but despite double checking, the horizon was missing.. and managed to almost capture the whole board nose to tail..

Shame too as conditions were great, sun out and some big-assed moored ships to glide alongside..

Same thing appears to be happening for Miami (Biscayne Bay) on Sunday. :-[
