The thing with snowblowers, especially large ones, is if you are being chased down a mountain by guys on skis with AK47s, they come in handy, as the last few seconds of this clip shows....

On Her Majesty's Secret Service one of the BEST Bond films! George Lazenby so under-rated great screenplay and Diana Rigg!!

Didn't have to look far.....found them at my neighbors earning some bills
.....and later in my refrigerator!!!!!
Too many for the rack
Some in the shack
Some under decks
Some have straps

In the 80's living in Tahoe, I got tired of shoveling one day.  I worked for a roofing company and I had a triple headed propane torch, we would use to apply single layer bitumen.  Fired it up and melted the snow.  It worked fairly quickly, but the problem was now I had a sheet of ice covering the drive, walk and steps.  I figured out that if the air temp was over 32 it worked fine. I just had to completely dry the concrete.  If it was freezing temps, the snow would melt and refreeze.  It just took longer.  Boy did it go through propane though.

I agree coal shovels worked the best. They don't work as well on frozen ice chunks though.

Shoveling or burning off the driveway, wasn't the hardest part.  It was shoveling the berm that the snow plow would put up, which in the Sierra's usually meant Sierra Cement.  So if Robin and I were shoveling, and we heard the plow coming I would run back in the house and Robin would run up and start shoveling the berm.  The plow operator would see this poor young women shoveling the berm by herself and would take a couple swipes and clear out the hardest part of the job.
