Here's my SUP vehicle. All my boards fit inside nicely, although I recently put the factory racks on, in case I need to carry multiple boards, people, etc.

8'5" 2014 Naish Mana GT

Yours is the first time I’ve ever seen a front tie down on an SUP. Do you mind me asking how long your board is? I come from a kayaking background and we always used front and rear tie downs when transporting our boats. Have never seen it used on an SUP though. Are you using it because of the length of your board relative to the size of your car? I don’t think I see a rear tie down, although maybe I’m missing that? Anything else you can tell me as to why you are using this kind of tie down system to transport your board?

The SUP is 14 feet.  Before I got it, ( and I still do) carry an 18 foot kayak.  With the kayak I do front and rear tiedowns, I do the front tie on the SUP mostly because I'm just used to doing it that way with the kayak and it gives me a good reference when driving that all is well.  But also the racks on the Mazda 3 are pretty close together.   Most anywhere I paddle I'm normally traveling some portion of it at 70+mph and in that pic, I was partway into a several hundred mile drive on the Interstate.

the New funmobile, Hood river version. I'm going to get some shit from Covesurfer and Headmount about this, I know.

My trusty 2006 decided to spring a substantial oil leak in the upper manifold area three days before I was supposed to leave for SoCal. Delaying to get the leak fixed wasn't prudent since winter storms were coming and we had a timetable to get to SoCal and meet the Trouts to do the house handoff. So I bought this. Actually turned out to be just about the perfect choice. Very nice truck, and my white 2006 was getting a bit crusty.

the rack moves up to handle longer boards, but I'm getting better mileage with the tonneau and the rack lowered. Easier to get at the4 board too.

I modified the tonneau to fit with the rack. The nice little strain relief/hole finish bits are courtesy of my new Tuff-Sew. Great sewing machine. Yeah, yeah, I'l make somebody a fine wife.

Between this truck and a bit of necessary family support the bucks I made from selling my old Maserati are pretty much gone. Easy come, easy go. I still feel like I got away with something.

I'm going to cull the herd a bunch when I get back to Hood River to make space and finance my Electric TR3 project. Kind of nice getting rid of stuff I no longer care about to pay for stuff I do.  the sole benefit of being old is that most of the stuff I own is "vintage". There was a guy at my shop a few weeks before I left who was going on and on about my Yamaha 360 MX. I consider it a relatively new bike. Bought it new in 1976--that was only a few years ago, right??

PB, you're going to need a bigger drive way.  It's a bit bigger than the previous post.

It's the same rack, I just set it up differently. My last truck was a short bed, this is long, so I moved the front posts back a few feet to permit racking a board below the cab level.  I plan to raise it for longer boards, though actually, the Infinity Blackfish looks bitchen' in the lowered position. Might conk a few folks though.
