Looking for Tomo styled board
« on: January 27, 2015, 07:16:24 PM »
Anyone know of shops with Tomo styled demos on the West Coast?   I'm in Santa Cruz and already demo'd the 8'0 Door and the blue twin fin (Infinity?) at Covewater

Thanks

How was the door???  Call Kirk at L41 surfboards, he is also called the original sim-sup.  He is the guy in your area.  Super nice guy, easy to talk to

The door was fun though it was really small surf so not a good test.  Pretty stable for a 200lb guy though it was odd to turn though I think that had more to do with inexperience/lack of skill then anything else.

My production L 41 S3 is a nice board though I want to go shorter.  I have emailed with Kurt about the s5 however until i see one I'm not sure if i want one.  And of course there are none to demo so I'm looking at Naish Rapter, Mallet, and now Kings in the medium term.  Seems like the Mallet is the only one I might be able to demo so I'll run down to SB and check it out this weekend.

Yellow,
I thought the door and such was made for small surf? I am also looking to get one these boards from kirk, I feel the same exact way as you, nobody I know has one and its such a departure from what I am used to riding, let me know how the mallet runs.

Aloha IRY,
We definitely have a 7'6" Mallet to demo...weather looks like it will be SUPer nice...just make sure that you contact our shop ahead of time as there is a waiting list on the weekends for most of our demo/rental boards...

Here it was in action yesterday...there's not a lot of nose in front of you on a 7'6"...so, it kinda comes in and out of view...
I did get my toes over the nose on one ride...

I also have at least four high performance 7' range paddlesurfing SUP's and a sundry of other wave riding craft in my fun wagon...if you happen to see me along the road...

I have a 7'6 Mallet lined up for Sat afternoon in SB from StandUp Paddle Sports. Thanks guys.  I think it could be too small however I really want to demo one of these tomo boards to see if I can go smaller then my current 8'8 x32 L41 S3 or maybe get more stability with a 8'8ish tomo then I have with the L41.

I do like the SX from L41.

Wish Kirk would provide Covewater some SX, S5 or Tv Dinner demo boards.  I can see buying a proner board without riding first  They tend to hold their value better then SUP boards do and are 1/4 to 2/3 the price of a decent SUP.  The risk is bearable.  With the new SUP designs you could just be tossing a big chunk of money away if the board not what you expected.

That board looks fun. Wardog doesn't seem to have much problems catching waves with that board. Looking forward to your review and how it compares to your S3 especially since I have that board in that exact same size.

I think I can sell my wife on one of these new Tomo desks for my office. If I want to go surf, I'll just have to clear my desk first ;)
It's not overhead to me!
8'8" L-41 ST and a whole pile of boards I rarely use.
