Battening down the hatches
« on: January 25, 2015, 12:17:27 PM »
My neighbor works for N-Star....they are planning for the possibility of 5 days of power outage. 2ft+ of snow in the forecast with heavy winds. Going to suck.

We just saw the New York City press conference for the upcoming storm.  Be smart & safe.

5 days?  Yikes!   :o
I could handle one day.

Amazing.  Santa Cruz is like spring nights and summer days lately. We need rain, so it comes with a drought price, but my neighbor says he has never seen a January this warm and sunny in SC, and he has been here off and on all his life.

Hoo boy, yes, it's getting nasty everywhere. I'm wearing a long sleeved shirt.

(My brother is going to fall off his chair backwards flipping the bird at the screen with both hands. The rest of you new englanders can feel free to join in).

not just high winds... they are talking about up to 84 mph on Cape Cod.... add 2 feet of snow to the trees and look out power lines.

let's see.... no power for up to 5 days, 2 feet of snow, temps in the 20's at night and windy......... Better buy some vodka.

See you zonoids on the other side  ;D

Thank about us buried under all that snow. I'm scheduled for 2-3 feet by the end of tomorrow.

Happy surfing. (Shiver!)

Better buy some vodka.

My friend just turned me on to Tito's handmade vodka.
Great reviews and rates at the top of the heap. Hope it's not too late to stroll down to your corner store.
Good luck.

I heartily recommend Pau Vodka, made here in Maui from Pineapple. Has a faint pineapple bouquet and a very crisp flavor and finish. The same outfit makes Paniolo blended whiskey, which is wickedly good all buy itself and makes a spectacular Old Fashioned. Best of all is Koholo dark rum from Kuai, which is the only dark rum I could drink straight from the bottle. Incredible over ice cream. I used a whole bottle on the two fruitcakes my sis sent for Christmas. Diane froze the remaining pieces though nothing would have ever happened to them--enough alcohol to kill about anything. I thaw a chunk every so often to have with a little espresso.

"We never eat fruitcake because it has rum
and one little bite turns a man to a bum
can you imagine a sorrier sight
than a man eating fruitcake until he gets tight!

Away, away with rum, by gum, rum by gum...

"Never go food shopping when you're hungry".

A near corrollary to that one is:  "Never hit super-Walmart after work when you're panicked about the prospect of 3-5days without power:"

* mini powdered donuts
* Ritz crackers
* gazillion packets of hot chocolate
* oodles of sodium-laden canned soup
* frozen pizza
* cookies
* cream cheese
* milk
* ramen noodles
* beer
* vodka nips
* chocolate-filled muffins
* canned peaches
* brownie brittle
* breakfast sausages
* hi-fructose coffee creamer

Paleo, I ain't.   :o

I'm a New Englander. I've never seen this and at first, thought it was totally stupid. However by the end I was nearly pissing myself!

Good shit!
