Don't be shy ... !
« on: January 25, 2015, 08:29:02 AM »
Hi,

On saturday morning, the last weather report announced : below zero and snowfalls in the middle of the day.

Gone down at the garage with a cup of coffee, I tried to loose my frustration waxing one of my stand up surf board ... frrrrrr .... frrrrr .... frrrrr .....

After a few minutes of the movement of goes and come, I heard my Bic race 12'6 on his rack saying "come ... frrrr .... come ... frrrrr ... don't be shy and take me to brake the ice !"

Like what, a good session full of good sensations, it's due to few things !

It might seem like a dumb question, but did you fall off?

If so, is it as big as a deal as it looks?

Hi !

I didn't fall in the water ! Concentration and it was not the first time. Since 5 years now I practice this in the winter season. Well, if you have a look on my feet, you can see I haven't socks and this is the best way for your body to know the temperature of the water  8) and so decrease the surprise and the shock !

It is not exceptional to stand up surfing on the iced lake in winter with 5 cm of snow on the ground and air temperature about - 4°C windy and the water 4°C.

How many strokes does it take to get across a frozen swiss lake?
(I hear you swiss are good with numbered accounts...)  :)

OK, I'll admit it, your mancard is definitely more valid than mine.  Good grief that looks cold.

It is a special treat to slice through ice.

I hope you aren't too far from your car... fingers and toes freeze up pretty quick if you fall in. Ask me how I know :-\

I'm both in awe and slightly horrified. Good on you for getting out there, I wish I was brave enough to do likewise, but no socks? No gloves? The water is 4°C / 39°F  :o; that's ripe for cold shock. Be careful!

By the way, who took the photos of you?

Yikers..... fresh water is a LOT crispier than my saltwater ice. I went thru 8" today, but it was soft and fairly easy to paddle through.

Great vid... similar shape to your icebreaker, sharp nose, flared bow to push ice out the sides. But... I think you are more than a little crazy not to wear booties and gloves, one hidden rock and you face plant through the ice, gotta have your kind of tolerance to get back in without some frostbite damage.

Keep the vids coming...  thank your girls for putting up with your antics... mine wouldn't  ;D

Maybe a glue on piece of metal on the front end to act as an ice breaker.
