Trail 6 today
« on: December 21, 2014, 05:07:15 PM »
Just pick a peak and enjoy. No people. Glassy, head high. Saw Sano Sup coming when we were leaving. It's just amazing to have this area at our disposal and have everyone jammed into Dogpatch, etc. It's a 3 hour time commitment with the walk but well worth it. Need to see more SUPers there. It was just me and Sup-SurfChick for miles.
Boards:

Trail 6 can really be a blast.  I would love to join in sometime.  Somebody set a date, and I'll do my best to go.  I'm off work for the next two weeks.

That would be very fun. We wait for a med sized straight west with decent morning tide on a Sat or Sunday. Usually figure out on a Wed. and plan.

Trail 6 is the most best access to the heart of Wreck Beach off UBC in Vancouver. At least it was in the 80's. Sadly dunno about now. No photos.

I haven't been to that part of the park.  Is there room for a 36' motorhome to park down there?  We try to get down to San Elijo campground for a week every year and stop at San O (camp at San Mateo CG) on the trip down to SD.  We have surfed dogpatch a couple times, but would like to see what the trails are like.  Where is Trail 6?  Is that an official number with a sign or is it just the 6th trail south of the Nuc plant?  Google earth shows a number of trails down to the beach.  It looks like some go over steep terrain.

There are small signs that designate the trail number.  The whole stretch of beach, several miles long, has ridable surf, not just Trail 6.  It's a long carry of gear to get down to the beach.  Really fun surf, maybe a little more punchy than Dog Patch but still mellow.  There's lots of motor homes parked there, I don't know about size, but it's likely that yours would work out fine.  Double check me on that though.

So do you use any kind of "board -carry" aid like a shoulder sling? I don't think of my board board as "heavy" (8'10" Sup Sports Stoke) but carryin it a few miles would certainly be hard on the arms.

I was at Nukes Sunday and had that all to myself too (Mid Morning).  Trail 3 was a staple of my prone days but the walk was a more of a hike, and my prone board was a 25 lb. beast.  I think my arms were 2 inches longer at the end of the schelp.  I've actually never made the walk at Trail 6.

TW, you do know that your board sled makes all walks doable.  Best surf move I've seen.  :)

Trial 6 is the dog beach.  I used to surf there a lot in my prone days.  I have this week off and might try to go there some time this week.

I have a carrier but I didn't use it yesterday. New boards are light enough. I actually carried mine and SurfSupChick's boards up the hill after surfing
