I love Annabel, she's a sweet person, but she needs an editor. I have no idea what she's trying to say.

In order to understand her message completely, you probably need to be an insider.  But, even looking from the outside, I find her message insightful.

I don't think she spends much time on self promotion.  She's busy out doing stuff.

I escorted her on her first maliko run years ago.  It was in July, she was in town for the big channel races around Maui and Oahu.  She was on a borrowed bullet 17 with the steering on the wrong side.  Maliko was big and windy.  She's fearless.  I guess that comes with the experience of many long ocean paddles in crazy conditions, all over the world.  She has some great stories.

I got to surf around on my F-16.  Since she had no steering it was a bit slower for her.  As was usually my practice, I knee paddled across the harbor in the heavy cross-headwind.  "STAND UP ON YOUR FEET LIKE A MAN" she yelled at me.  I don't think she was joking around.  She's so awesome.

If by insightful you mean "change is good and inevitable", then yes, and that would be the edited version. And writing a published article targeting insiders is a waste of perfectly good pixels. Again--edit.

Formula one drivers leave the multi-billion dollar companies that pulled them from obscurity and shepherded their career until they were world champion millionaires. They do that with simple, clear statements of why--or they say nothing. Mo' bettah. Inside baseball in a tiny sport like standup paddle racing is trivial. Controversy over a woman beating men? Really. From anyone that matters? Maybe from some youtube commenters living with their Mommy, but is there anyone who actually does this stuff that didn't just love seeing that?

I really, really like this lady. She's got a good heart and she's simply a very nice person. I think she regrets that she will no longer be dancing with the one that brung her, but it's time for her to move on. I don't think that comes through in this stilted thing. It should have.

Saw her after the BOP elite race at the hotel to congratulate her and she was very upset. It seemed more than just from the controversy in the race. There was more brewing there as in "the industry against her" type thing. This article makes sense from that brief conversation I had with her. A venting of sorts.

Dang, that girl is buff!  I hope paddling makes me even 50% as in-shape as her.  (I say as I eat an Oreo)

I do not know what she is trying to say, its kind of a stem of consciousness rant, but like supdiscobay, I don't see where she's saying shes departing Starboard.

Heart on your sleeve rambling and that is okay, I could not get through it. She seems wound tight to me but what would I know I have never met her.

To come out on top time and time again you need to be intense and focused and in "the lets all hold hands and make this sport fun vein" sometimes hyper competitiveness does not translate well.

I heard 10th hand that she was paid 50k a year and all her travel expenses and could basically race wherever she wanted.

I also need an editor.

Oh, I don't think there is any question she has left Starboard. Looks like she and the company had a serious disagreement on board design going forward. That as well as her wanting to be treated with the same respect, support and compensation as her male counterparts.

Annabel is an incredible competitor, mentally strong and very independent.  I'm sure she will be on the high step of every podium no matter what board she rides next year.

It reads like a philosophical quest from her part.

But no mention of leaving starboard, actually she praises de brand and her relationship a lot.

weird article

But then again, the board she was riding in this pic days ago does not seem to be a starboard. What do you think?
