The biggest surf I have ever ridden was touching the underside of Huntington Pier, years ago.  What's that, 20, 25' or so?   I was terrified, caught 2 waves in 2 hours.  I don't know how Besho and you others do it.  My hat's off to you.

When Nazare is huge it's impossible to paddle into waves. Even Shane Dorian tried it on a smaller day got a hell of a beating.

The swell at Nazares comes from a very deep canyon and then abruptly meets the shore creating huge A-frames. If you watch from the sand it looks even bigger and scarier. And it's impossible to paddle with so many water moving around and waves breaking everywhere. It's probably one of the last few "legit" places to tow.
