i wonder how bean is doing on his 9-6 BnB?  glad to hear you're dialing in your 10-1.  it is, as you say, a very specific kind of ride but, also as you say, in terms of noseriding, it beats the shorts off of the allwave.  as does the more-all-around striker, for that matter.  jimmy sure does seem to produce some sweet designs, esp for a guy who professes to SUP hardly at all.

Yeah - another session this AM, I can't believe how the board reacts when you reach the nose. I used to longboard when I was young but never on a classic log, it was more a progressive shape, and never with a concave nose, it's really interesting how it works.

I guess it does make perfect sense that it creates a rising/accelerating effect when weight is exerted on it. Again, same sort of session, back and forth between B&B and AW, same results, B&B hit a few home runs, was mostly on AW though.

Plan on riding all B&B in the AM when the surf drops off in size some.

How is the steering from the nose of the B&B?

Also, I guess I'm hearing that your not that hot on how it turns from the tail?

It works pretty well through sections from the nose.

Turning from the tail - I'll be honest I've been cheating for the most part, just because the waves were a bit bigger the last two days (chest to head) and a bit quicker than normal, I've been angling the board frontside or backside at the onset of the wave so that I don't have to come down and do a big turn.

So I wouldn't say that I'm displeased with the turning, I just haven't worked on it as much, that's on me, not the board.

One more thing to add- I e-mailed Jimmy Lewis before and after I bought the board (it's been said before on here he's very responsive and helpful). I was basically telling him on these larger/quicker waves that I'd take off at an angle and start walking up right away. He said he does the same on any quick sections or faster waves, so I wouldn't get so caught up with how it turns. The pivot turns are possible, but you can always just take off in the direction you want to go and start walking that way.

Had a great session on it this morning, perfect conditions - waist to chest, couple of fives off the nose, mostly just getting up there and getting used to the ride though.

Just had a JL 9'6" BB Machine delivered yesterday.  At 117 L, I am a little concerned, but my first opportunity to ride will be tomorrow afternoon... can't wait!

Hey Beannie, How is the challenge going?

Been super-busy the last couple weeks so only out on the BB a couple times.  Each time in close-out beach break so no chance for the nose.  The good news is that 117 L provides plenty of float, not too different from standing on my Infinity V2.  Monday AM is looking pretty good, I hope to come back with some more feedback.

Hope you get some great waves,
and its not too crowded on the Holiday.

I've pretty much decided to get the Black & Blue, now what size.
I'm 59 yo, 5'9", 185 pounds - surfed the Laird 10'6" for about 5 years.

I too have been concerned about the B&B 9'6"'s volume and width, float, etc.
as some have said it is a difficult board - good to hear it has plenty
of float.  I guess the wider square tail (than a pintail) gives it better balance
at a narrower width?  I also wonder about how the round rails affect stability and
turning from the tail.
