Destruction Of A Masterpiece :(
« on: November 24, 2014, 08:14:47 AM »
 :'(

Yes folks - as the title says..

What was possibly the nicest SUP in the UK was destroyed yesterday afternoon by a runaway motorhome.

The tail was hanging off the back of my van well within legal limits as the chap drove by in his motorhome drove tore into the stunning carbon weave, wrenched the Richmond Paddleboard sideways as the lockable roof straps almost tore wright through the whole rear end of the board.

A custom Richmond 16' Carbon is now almost in two pieces!!!! >:( :'(

Very sad. Every time I park my rig with my Bullet 17 sticking out I wonder if some idiot is going to nail it. Fortunately not many motorhomes on Maui, but plenty of idiots.

It seems that Craig Richmond will not be making any boards again until 2016..

I wonder if a SIC would be a good alternative?

What do you think folks? Does a SIC perform as well as a Richmond?

That is horrible. Hopefully you can get a LARGE insurance claim which might ease the pain slightly..

Mike - I would have rather have seen my campervan smashed to bits than my Richmond totalled.

Just looking at the SIC website, there are some very sexy boards on there. :)

Talk to SUPUK ( Charlie ). He has some knowledge of Richmond Unlimited boards. May be repairable?
It's not overhead to me!
8'8" L-41 ST and a whole pile of boards I rarely use.

At least the ad will write itself:

"FOR SALE, CUSTOM 16' RACEBOARD -- Time to thin the quiver.  Full carbon, this board is fast and light.  Only selling b/c I mostly race in the 14' class now.  This board has been babied since day 1, only one small ding (professionally repaired).  Will not last long, call now."

Yeah runaway motor home sounds like some kind of horror movie.  Were you in your car when it happened?

Was shuttling with Jimmy Lewis one day and he has no racks on his truck.  We just have the boards lashed down into the bed, pretty much suspended by the tailgate... my 17 under his 14.  Boards are bouncing precariously and swing over to side of his truck.  "Don't worry Bill, they aren't going nowhere."  My head keeps turning to look. "So Jimmy, you haven't considered getting a rack?"  "No, don't need a rack."  "Oh"  Then a container truck passes us on the side where the boards are angled off of.  Inches, I mean inches.  My knuckles are white.  A little swerve by him away from the truck.
"Don't worry Bill.  They'll be fine."  My gut was in knots by the time we arrived at the gulch.

Repairable--totally, ever the same? No.

Bullet 17 V1. I just ordered a molded hollow one here on Maui and I have a production version in Hood River. Awesome board, and it will change the way you think about downwinding.

Ya Craig is taking a year off to remodel his house, apparently. I tried to order another board as well. Your board was pretty different from the two I've owned and the others I've seen. Most being flat(ish) water boards and yours being a real downwind board. My Richmonds have both been very fast and very tippy. I'm sure you'd be happy with a SIC but I know you love that board. Hope you get it back to almost pristine shape.
