More bad luck...
« on: November 23, 2014, 08:29:40 AM »
Just when I think i'm stoked again it seems my Naish 8'0 carbon LE has a problem.

So I ordered my 8'0 Naish LE from Paddle Planet in SD. Waited a week and the wrong board arrived. Waited another week and my naish arrived damaged (nose and tail were cracked). Paddle planet was nice enough to loan me the damaged board until a new one arrived. The owner patched it up and off I go. Well then they let me know Naish made a mistake and there is no second board. Not too big of a deal..right?

After maybe 2 hours of total ride time the bottom of the board has gone semi-soft. Not the entire bottom, just parts. It's a carbon board so it should be pretty stiff, right? When I push on it I can push into the board. The indent doesn't stay...but it is definately soft. There's no bubble so I don't think it is de-lammed. Anyone ever had this experience before? Should I just return the board and wipe my handles clean? It's such a fun board, though, and they don't have any more  :-\

I could very well be additional damage from shipping that went undetected until it got used.

There are lots of great boards. Unless it's free, I'd say pass.
Foote 10'4X34", SIC 17.5 V1 hollow and an EPS one in Hood River. Foote 9'0" x 31", L41 8'8", 18' Speedboard, etc. etc.

There was another thread on "soft", squishy Naish boards.  Conclusion: defective boards acknowledged by manufacturer, quality control problems.

Sorry, my search abilities and memory can't cope at the moment.  The boards depressed on touch, looked like they had cellulite and ripples where they should have been firm and smooth. The Naish boards that I have used (Mana variants) are hard and stiff, wouldn't depress when you just pushed on them.

The 2015 Javelins tested in Utah were flexy but no indents or softness. I have not seen any problems with the LE X 32s which come from somewhere other than Cobra so I am told. MCs now thats another story.

given no real knowledge of what's wrong, you dont want to own whatever the problem turns out to be, specially after warranty expires--move on

Took it back. Not without some serious hesitation and mourning....  :'(

I guess I can try the Starboard 7'4 78 Liters. I felt like at 180 Lbs 80 liters was my absolute minimum. Ugh. The hunt continues...

It's possible that the board was sanded thin in spots.   But regardless, smart for bringing it back.

Today when I entered the shop an employee explained he ordered the same board I did when I placed my order. He said it snapped on the first day, first wave. I asked if I could see it and it was soft just like mine. Thank God I returned it despite my head..

So I just talked to a guy in Australia who said the first set of 8'0 LE's were replaced by a second set that apparently were much stronger. We must have gotten the weak versions.
