A 3 to 5% gain is good and a 10% gain is excellent.  If you are ok with SB - try the 24 sprint or an older 25.  Super fast and a very stable platform also - just do not plan to stop paddling in side chop.   ;)

One thing I have noticed with performance improvements is the effect of comfort and cadence. I have found that as I get better at balancing on a particular narrower board and am able to increase power cadence strokes due to being fitter and more comfortable on it, this can result in a 10% improvement in speed over time on the same board.

That is an interesting observation. One of my training partners mentioned to me yesterday that he had never seen me paddle better and that he thought my stroke cadence had picked up some.  If you are going faster, wouldn't your cadence be faster?   Seems logiccal to me.

There has been a lot written about this online. Generally a higher cadence stops the board slowing down between strokes but needs a greater level of fitness to maintain it. If we look at # of strokes per 100m or yards it figures if each stroke has the same power then the higher the gardener the faster you will go as you are getting more power in the water over the same distance. We train doing 8 sets of sprints and I know when I'm fit I can maintain higher cadence at full power for longer.

Here is an update for whatever it's worth.  My average training pace has now picked up a tick more during the past 30 days.  I am now averaging 9% faster than I was prior to getting the X 14 Pro.  These runs average right at six miles and have been in windy conditions.  I would say that I am faster in every conceivable condition on the X 14 Pro board.  Upwind, downwind, cross chop, flat, you name it.  Can't wait to race it this weekend at Carolina Cup.  Feeling confident.

On the X 14 Pro, I just beat my previous Carolina Cup Money Island 6.5 mile race time by over 6 minutes or over 7%.  Last race I was on a 14 x 26.12 Javelin.  Conditions were tougher this time too.  I think I have said enough on this thread.  Love this new board!!

Congratulations. You only need to see what Georges Cronsteadt managed to do in that race to see what is possible on a X14 - although I assume his is probably a custom width. Coming from so far behind, after a bad start, to pass Connor and take third is incredible.

Right!!  SIC took 3 out of the top six spots in the Graveyard.  2nd and 3rd womens and third mens for Georges.  I believe that there were new X 14 Pro Lite versions, which are 24 wide.  I am pretty sure that they all ride production boards.
