It's cool to see how each designer approaches the Tomo style, but I'm curious as to what really defines it.

I see:

Sharp tail angles

Seriously short lengths

Channels or major concave

Hard rails

Parallel rails - seriously parallel

But is there more and am I wrong on these? I'm trying to learn more about design.

What's the classic Tomo rocker for instance?

It seems like it's a lot more than the nose but that gets all the attention. Weird that the part that never touches the water defines the style. You guys who know more than me please kick in. What makes these things surf like they do?

It seems like "classic Tomo" has some pretty deviant ideas.

Here's an interesting Tomo Vanguard inspired SUP at the Swaylocks forum: http://tinyurl.com/plrwkgd (Look at how he made the handle out of PVC pipe caps.)
It's funny haha sad the opinions he expresses probably never having ridden one. I never have him shape a board for me

I agree, but as awesome as Swaylocks is, you have to tread lightly because there seems to be a whole lotta sup haters there.  :-\

Think we'll see any Tomo-inspired SUPs in the 2016 Starboard and Naish lines?

Sano, this is what I was talking about, I don't see the door as "Tomo styled" due to it's width, rocker and tail. It's flat, no channels. It was more of a yoga sup to me when I saw it in person.

It's got the cut off ends, sure but I'd love to hear more about what Tomo is doing other than just clipping the nose. His shapes are pretty revolutionary, but now it seems people will likely just hack off the nose on a shape and claim it's a Tomo style.

Btw, that's no dig on Wardog, he's given reasons for sticking to his guns on the tail and rails and I respect that he gives his shapes thought and his own take and feel.but I feel a lot of folks will adopt the nose without really considering what makes them go at such a small width and length.

Sways has taught me a ton, but yes, I can't even bring myself to ask a question, even about longboards or mini sims. Thank the Lord for the shapers here who are gracious and generous with their time to a newb.

I'm about to start my own hand shape (prone, not going to waste the foam and glass on a SUP just yet.) Friendly mentors are a gift.
