I've been doing dawn patrol for a couple of months when the tides shift to morning low tides.  It is really beautiful in the morning, and generally a lot less windy and calmer in the morning in Santa Cruz.

I am retired and pretty much got in the habit of sleeping until about 9 in the morning then taking 3 hours to wake up with coffee, reading etc.  I didn't even think that I could balance in the morning. However, I found that I can balance pretty well in the early morning, so that is not a problem.

Dawn patrol and an afternoon nap are fine, the mornings are pretty, so I have expanded my SUP repertoire.

The time change means more dawn patrol.

+1 for hating it.  Only saving grace is that the days start getting longer in about a month and a half. I prefer the end of the day/sunset/shake the stress of the day off type paddles.  When I lived on the east coast, I was nothing but dawn patrol.  I guess I just prefer watching the sun either set or rise over the water.

Nope  evening glass is mo betta than dawn patrol
In Orange County, evening glass doesn't happen very often.  It's nice when it does, but rare.  At least dawn patrol is glassy around here about 75% of the time.

Does not matter.  After rolling out of bed, I checked the waves and if good I go surfing.  If not I grabbed a cup of coffee, read the papers and wait for the waves to get better ... life of the retired! ;)

I'm down in Mexico and the time changed here 3 or 4 days ago. We were meeting at 6:15 in the morn to walk to the break.  Totally screwed us up and confused us there starting out when nobody's alarm jibed. Course my "smarter than me" phone had already figured it out.  It's hell being stupid sometimes. Upside... Mostly it's hell on everyone else.

Dawn patrol here in Asia. But our clocks don't change. At this time of year it's all about doing mini downwindd before work. That means meeting at the downwind end of the run at 6am, all piling into one car up to the upwind launch point and paddling downwind. Sunrise is around 6.30am. Run is 30-35mins so it's poasible to get to work by 8am. A great way to start the day.

I never have a clue what time it is. When I worked I had the world's greatest admin assistant to keep me honest. Now that I'm retired I'm always surprised when I look at my cell phone. Either wow, what happened to the day or wow, is it really that early. When I worked I got up at 5:30, rode my bicycle ten miles over the portland hills to get coffee, then rode back, showered and went to work. I either played rollerblade hockey at lunch, or just went for a cruise on my blades. I was probably the rankest smelling CEO in Oregon every afternoon. then paddled my SUP in the Willamette in the evening in the summer. Winters just sucked. Back then I hated the time change to winter, but now it doesn't matter much. Especially since I head to Maui about then.

In all cases I always wake up before 6:00 AM. And I'm usually sawing wood by 10:00 PM, unless I get really into a project--then I might be up until 4:00 AM, and then I wake up at 6:00 AM. No idea why I can't sleep in the morning, but I've always been able to get a lot done in a day.

I prefer the evening paddle or surf session,  but the days are getting short enough here in NH

Oops,  that one got away from me! Days are getting short enough that I wouldn't have time to get on the water after work even without the time change.
