New helmet.
« on: October 29, 2014, 08:04:13 AM »
Last week I bought a new Gath helmet to use on big days in the surf.. and even the odd wild downwinder or BOP race..

The other day a good friend was almost scalped from a bad fin cut to the head.. so today I used mine for the first time..

Very nice... and who says you have to stand up all the time... that's an awesome kneel position you have on those waves.

Saw pics of that head gash from the fin. Gruesome. Made me briefly consider a helmet but I don't think I need one for downwinders.

The low angle work great on the wave.  Higher not so much.

The helmet of course could be used for a headmount not so good for selfies but great for following someone else.

Wished I was wearing a helmet yesterday washing up after a run.  A coconut landed within few feet of splitting my skull.

Music  was great.

It's a brother and sister band from Oz called Angus and Julia Stone.

Nice music. Hey headmount, I've got a helmet left over from the BOP--want it?

the music is very evocative, the video too. I remember those days when personal drama seemed to important. "I'll never be happy again...never. Oh, wait, she's kind a cute."

I had one of the newer Gath helmets until it was stolen.  Now, I have an original Gath helmet. I like the original better, but I thought both were fine. The first one bothered me for about one session, then disappeared as far as wearing was concerned.  The original Gath has never bothered me a bit.  I don't know why people complain about them so much, maybe fit?

I wear the helmet when it looks like larger, more crowded and more out of control days.  On milder days, I'll go back to the soft top kook hat, or rubber surf cap, but should probably wear the helmet all the time.

Good call on the color. If you're gonna wear a helmut it might as well be one that helps you be seen. It makes a huge difference especially when treading water.

I couldn't find one big enough to fit over my hoodie suit! I think they are a good idea especially in decent surf and if you surf alone a lot.

I like the soft visor standuped.

Thanks, I just cleaned and scuffed the helmet and used contact cement,  hasn't budged.
