advice needed - replacing my Naish Hokua 9.10 GT 2014
« on: October 29, 2014, 05:02:16 AM »
Hello,

After terrible experience with my 2014 Naish Hokua 9.10 - paint chips off, very delicate board that gets dings from just touching it, deck-pad color faded quickly and so does the grip, fins house when I release the fins one time a massive paint chip peeled off and some more problem with my new Naish that does not suppose to happen on a new board and especially from this top rated brand.

make long story short I went back to my local dealer and show him my SUP and he told me that this model might be defective from the manufacture and it already happened to few of the 2014 models...

he offered my to add amount of money and to get a new 2015 Naish SUP.

I have got anther offer to trade my SUP with a 2013 used Star-Board SUP - wide-point 8.2 ft 32 in wide 130L and not adding any money.

my question is what would you do, I do not trust Naish anymore but to get a 2013 used model I do not know how smart it would be...

My main disappointment from Naish is the build strength which seems to be not that strong, I see people around me using the star-board in such a way that my Naish would be destroyed long time ago... I keep washing it with fresh water after each use, tie it to my car roof rack with special sponginess that would not damage the board even the tie-downs straps are with sponginess to give extra protection, I have double layer rail protection + on the back...

does any one else having those issues with Naish products?

in addition I would like to trade my 9.10 Hokua with a shorter board which must have high volume - around 130.
my options from Naish would be the Mana 8.5 / 8.10 GT or the Hokua X32 GT 8.3 / 8.8

I'm 185 cm tall and wight around 95 kg.

your help would be much appreciated,

Thanks!!!

I'd go for that L41 Tv dinner model.
Square and ugly but it should work, as you can see by those tomo designed nose. You'll be able to ride sub- 8'0

thanks but I have no option to get any other models than the used star-board or a brand new Naish.

I mainly looking for a durable SUP that I do not have to treat it with cotton gloves.

Maybe it is stupid question but on Naish is it possible that the GS is stronger than the GT?

Thanks!

A little McNaish humor.....

I was thinking it was those plain Yellow Belly Sneetches
who were just moping and doping along the beaches.

ONE day, along came Robby McMonkey McNaish,
who looked to take money from these Yellow Belly's stash.

“Just pay me your money and hop right on a board!”
So they paddled and paddled, then the big machine roared.

Soon all the Yellow Belly Sneetches surfed like stars,
because they had special Robby Red Belly upon thars.

My $0.02,  Just get a heavier more durable board.

sorry to hear that your board has problems.

I have a 9´5 Hokua GT and althougth it broke in half (just fisics and conditions) i had no problema with it and i´m not a guy who take care of my toys (my 2010 kite never had a fresh water wash, neither my sup or any other gear)

Maybe you just had bad luck, i think Naish has good products.

If money is no problem, don´t buy a used SUP. I tryed Fanatic Prowave 8´5 109 liters, excelent shape!!! Very similar to Naish Hokua. But if you only could buy those two boards (starboard or Naish) i would give Naish another chance.

Thanks,
Which board of the Naish surfing lineup is considered durable?

What about the x32 lineup can you please tell me the pros and cons?

Thanks!

I've beaten the hell out of my 9.1X32LE and it's held up pretty well, as good as my Fanatic Allwave.

DavidJohn thanks for the vid...

you have the carbon edition right?

well I take care of my board very well and still every miss-paddle stroke damage it badly... BTW my paddle blade is also with protected rubber to keep my board on the safe side...

Have had the Naish Hokua GT 9'10 for a couple of years and feel no reason to replace it with anything else.......has a bit of rail blemish but nothing major. A great performer.....maybe a little bit of dodgy stuff happening around the leash plug and the air vent screw.
Maybe you got a dud. Got mine cheap.......early model that had hand grip too far forward so board tends to sag down at rear when carrying it.
Great board and great construction.....worst board I ever owned maintenance wise was the PSH 9'6 ripper.....in hospital every couple of weeks

I own the 8'8" Hokua X32 LE  surfed it twice hated it..too wide and slow.  First thing I noticed when I picked it up at the shop was a tiny sticker saying "Made in China"  this was a surprise as I thought all Naish was made at Cobra factory in Thailand..haven't ridden the board since so can't comment on quality or durability  I want to sell it before any paint starts chipping or deck pad starts peeling.

Hobie Raw 8'10"
Jimmy Lewis Kwad 8'7"
Naish Hover 95 liter 5'7"
F-One Rocket foil board 5'5" 90 liters
Fanatic Aero 1250, 1500, 1750 HA foils
CabrinhaMantis 3.5, 4m 5m. F-One Strike 7m CWC
Hobie 14' race board
