Tiny little guy SUP surfing with style
« on: October 28, 2014, 02:25:00 PM »
I can't believe how poised and stylish this little munchkin looks on a wave.  Daddy has invested a lot of time into this little guy.

I see a lot of that in Maui, not so much other places. I don't know why. There's dozens of 6-9 year old kids that rock. One kid in particular that I see on the west side reminds me of Zane about at about 6-7 years older--hard, aggressive bottom turns and lots of lip smack. Gonna be great by age 12.

the other wild thing is the race/downwind teams. the kids at Sano that Candance and Anthony are training are very impressive, and the Big Winds dev kids in Hood River are astonishing. Give them five years and it's going to be a different world in SUP racing. The current leaders started in windsurfing, kitesurfing and surfing and have been training hard to race for the last six years. These gen 3 kids are starting with SUP racing. Some of therm will hit their mid-teen years with ten years of experience and intense training.  Yikes.
Foote 10'4X34", SIC 17.5 V1 hollow and an EPS one in Hood River. Foote 9'0" x 31", L41 8'8", 18' Speedboard, etc. etc.

I love seeing little guys that rip... and the parents that make it possible. The Grom scene has so much quality, that it blows me away.

I have a little 10 year buddy, that prone surfs the SUP peak all summer. His Dad is bringing him up as a full on waterman. He does well in all East Coast comps.
I tell him, if he dedicated some time to SUP surfing, he could win most adult contests.

I posted some pics of him the other day, on a regional thread no one has looked at, so I will put some here. Robby Goodwin is his name. He goes big and slashes triple OH like a veteran. Nicest person in the water. Not SUP yet... but I will work on that. Anyone got a 4'5 x 22 SUP they don't need?

 Kids just get it.
This shot was just after taking my girlfriend's 9 year old grandson out surfing for the first time.

I asked him to stand like a surfer.

Guess when your dad is Colin McPhillips you learn to do stuff like this.....

Get Dax out in the surf with his older bro, and it's a contest in itself.

The two of them are just a hoot to watch when out there with there pops.
Me: 6'1"/185...(2) 5'1" Kings Foil/Wing Boards...7'10 Kings DW Board...9'6" Bob Pearson "Laird Noserider"...14' Lahui Kai "Manta"...8'0" WaveStorm if/when the proning urges still hit.

At the Ventura Paddle surf contest, both the boys and their dad were on fire, with Kai beating his dad in the semi's.  Their boards are so small.

looking for help-

I am a dad of a young boy who is 47" tall and is looking to SUS with me but we are having a hard time finding a usable paddle.

I think the right gear is absolute important especially the paddle for smaller guys or else they will hate it ( remember the "garden shovels" people would throw at you when you were learning ??)

My vision is an ultra narrow gauge carbon face and shaft or similar that can be adjusted ??

any info please post or PM me !

thanks in advance

Gavsdad

Cameraguy, you should start a new thread in the Gear forum and you will get a lot more replies.
