HB & Bolsa
« on: October 21, 2014, 01:30:27 PM »
Drove by this morning after a meeting at the port
looked near DOH glassy with slight off shore in full sun with minimal crowd.
(Thank God summer is over)

That is confirmed....
I tried to paddle out on my 7'11" Blue Planet Flame Thrower and was denied twice...

Went to the shop and grabbed the 9'8" Super Fish...

Paddled straight out and caught some Bombs...
Kinda rolly but definitely over head + +

From the quick drive by at 11:30, Golden West and the cliffs looked really tempting, clean, some fantastic shoulders, but there were a few guys paddling out that I saw get tossed over the falls on longboards... probably something you'd have to time and pick your channels.

Beach breaks require timing...
Not always a channel.
Especially now since Marie has dredged the sand out near the beach.
Cracking hard on the inside..
But if you time it right or get lucky you might get a clear path.

I took a bunch on the head in my first 2 paddle outs then aborted..
Current dragging you south into the impact zone...
Just couldn't get traction on the 7'11" to get anywhere..

Once on the 9'8" I just plowed my way out..

HB was wally this morning..on the other side of high tide it looked better, some corners..

Bolsa Jetty was the call..

Surfed with Glider, Derrick (ex Powerex and ex Starboard), Carl (Stoked), Richard (Kings), Donald (Oceanlineage), Gary
That's a crowd..

First wave into the channel backside..
Brutal beat down, had to exit and walk back...

Next wave top to bottom Bam...best wave of the sess..

711 Blue Planet Flame Thrower go to Board...AM1's

Kinda chasing it around after that as the tide was rising and the waves were rolling by...

My go-to spot in Newport was only about chest high, so not as big as other places, but many nice peaks both directions.  I was the only one out for the first hour. Rode my Hana Lima, which is now my favorite board.  So fun!  Hated to go to work.

Looked Wally and Large today too.  1.5 headhigh to DOH by my shoreline estimate at 730 am.  Some clean shoulders if you were lucky, and sometimes you have to make your own luck.  Beautiful moring.

Won't hurt the Sand Bars in HB or Bolsa..
West to North West...

What it will do is shorten the Beach..

Rocks in the Gap now...

Also they are Dredging at the Bolsa Jetty Inlet
More sand pumping out to the line up...

After the Storm.

Some Big Ones Today.

Watched guys paddle for 20 minutes and not get any further out,
but pushed way down the beach...

I drove down to where it was smaller (GW) and paddled back up to Box Cars.

Out for 3 Hours chasing them down..

Caught a few Bombs..

Last one was an outside right, rode all the way in to GW from the Flag...over 250 Yards.
Looked back and the guys back where I took off were little black dots...

Only dunked on initial paddle out and exiting...
Think I'll live
