Surfline & SUP
« on: October 19, 2014, 08:54:32 PM »
On the Surfline video section, they have one called "JAWS:  FAILS, BAILS, AND THRILLS".
There are several SUP shots, one in the first couple of minutes and then more some where in the third minute.  It doesn't show SUP any different than the prone stuff.

I'm so far beyond getting that kinda hammertime.  But it's so fun to watch.

SUP is really the way to ride big surf as long as the offshores aren't too strong. You're on a 10 ft. board whether you're proning or standing. Might as well have the paddle power and already be in place to take the drop. Watching this vid and comparing the prone to standing waves, the standup waves looked cleaner. Having the paddle for extra stability on the face just looked better IMO. It was almost like the proners were flailing somewhat trying to maintain stability.

I like to think of standup as skiing with poles and proning like skiing without poles. The poles\paddle can be visual pleasing as they add to the flow of the maneuvers when used correctly and quietly.

8-4 X 31 1\4.  Round (wide) Diamond Tail Quad Tom Whitaker

Surfline probably allowed the SUP clip because they like seeing them get hammered.

Yeah, that guy did as well or better than anyone else in that vid, including the proners.
