Which board to bring to Nomatu?
« on: September 30, 2014, 08:22:55 AM »
Im heading to Nomatu in three weeks and am torn on which board to bring.  I love my Simsup 7'-6 x 29 for my local beach break in Huntington Beach and love my 7'-11 x 29" for my Hawaii trips, it handles the bigger waves way better and gives me more glide and is more forgiving.  If (when) it gets windy I will kitesurf my surfboard.

Has anyone been there? Any advice would be appreciated.  Forecast is all over the map and really too early to tell, it may be a last minute call......unless I take them both

HB, CA, Oahu, HI
JK 7'-8' x 28"x 4" = 99L
JK 7'-10" x 41/4" = 106 L
Joe Blair Gun 8-10" x 28 x 4 1/4
198 lbs - 5'-9"

Nice problem you've got there GOTWAVZ.

Make sure that you bring the board that works in beautiful (beautiful) clear water. One that works in perfect swimming pool like rights and one that works in very long reeling lefts.

Have fun and take a lot of pictures.

If it's windy the SIM SUP might not be the best choice so I'd say go with your Hawaii board.  Let us know how your trip went & take some photos.  If it's totally blown out do some downwinders on one of their loaner boards and get the boatmen to escort you7 bring you back.  There's some nice runs to neighboring islands.

I was there  two years ago for the Kalama Kamp in Oct and we had a lot of wind. A stable board would be best. I sup,d Dave,s 10 ft wave board and a 8 11 jimmy lewis at both lefts and swimming pools. If you go to cloud or wilkes, you are on your own and will eant the fastest surfyest board possable.

Do not get on a plane to Nomatu that's a mining town in northern Canada! Namotu is much nicer for SUP, swap your tickets ASAP.

Did you buy your package from Easy Rider? ;)

Oh man, seriously I'm jealous. Either way, you have to keep us posted. I'm trying to gauge if I'm solid enough to go and not waste my time by having to surf kiddie waves all week.

I'm curious to see what folks say about a SIM shape in Fijian waves. I have no idea.

I have asked folks about rail shape for fast waves over in the shape shack. I need to go check my responses speaking of that.

Im going to take both boards after all and my kite gear.

I will definitely send pics. My buddy is bringing a Drone with a camera in it. So we should have some good video....if I can only figure out how to put it on this site.

Nice!    ;D

Been to Tavarua a few times (across the channel) all times in April - so wind was not a big issue.  Surfed almost all the breaks at Tavi and Namotu - bring something you are comfortable on - and stable.  It's a long way to go to get tired from falling while waiting.   And as Tom said - something FAST.
Easy Rider is the name of my store in Edmonton, AB, Canada.
My name is Warren Currie . . . and we SUP Surf indoors . . . in a shopping mall!
