Whoa.... this has possibilities. What say you?
« on: September 25, 2014, 07:32:06 PM »
Never interested in inflatables as a travel surf option.... but THIS.... this could be a game changer. IMO

Great "outside the box" thinking  ;D

What do you think? Anyone seen one yet?

Wow...looks pretty good. Hopefully the interface is as strong as he was saying....had to be the tough part.

Thanks for sharing.. Definitely an interesting idea..

My concern would be the join between the hard and soft board..

It also appears to wheelie around as if the front sits much higher in the water.

Would love to see someone show up at a race on one, just to see people trying to figure out what class to put it in.

Very clever. Lots of good ways to solve the interface issue.
Foote 10'4X34", SIC 17.5 V1 hollow and an EPS one in Hood River. Foote 9'0" x 31", L41 8'8", 18' Speedboard, etc. etc.

Love it, the interface has been done in boats for years. This is awesome for travelers.

What a great idea.  Now you have to pack a patch kit and a ding repair kit. :P

Great idea. $1699....yikes. I guess in a world where $1700 boards are normal it's not too bad.  Would love to try one out.

Very innovative. At that short length, I would think a Pope Bisect might make some sense.

What about this?

http://corransup.com/hydra/

It's not a surf-specific board because of the fin — more of a take-apart pocket cruiser — but it's less than half the price of that other board ($699 with paddle) and it doesn't need a ding kit. You can also get a fourth section to turn this 9' board into a 12' one. It also comes with a bag.

The latest iteration of this board will be black carbon, not the white pictured above.

for anyone who needs to travel, that looks awesome. if i had that board this summer, my face would've survived the board hitting me much better, too. not sure it would replace the 'local' boards, but seems a great idea.

This Pindle guy is no slacker ..even in the early 2000s his GK kites had a core following.  I do not doubt he's got the design talent ..and like the poleboarder guys like Fanatic, etc.. has the factories already lined up that can do quality work.  Seems like a helluva idea especially when you look at the maximum sizes airlines will carry.

Anybody tried any other fins in one yet?

Very cool idea and would make a great option for a travel board.  I am sure they are much more high performance than a Uli or other inflatable.

Just wondering how the joint between the epoxy tail and inflatable nose section will hold up.   Not that bad a price either when you consider latest technology, rolling bag, pump and 3 piece CARBON paddle.

Happy to see the innovation.  :)

A bit sad that his first instinct to get it made was to go to China. :(

Where is the drop-stitch SUP factory in the US??  :o

That Corran board would be good for dinner parties where extra guest show up.  Just add a section and go.  Pass the potatoes, please?  :D
