A leap of faith
« on: September 22, 2014, 02:33:13 PM »
Yesterday was a gas.  First we watched my pal's kid win another contest at the Hard Rock in Lahaina then we jumped on his powercat for pleasure cruise up the coast.  He's got an unreal frame and awning with great hand holds and super board racks on top.  Powered by two 150 Mercs.  He's ready for excursions and if you're interested in serious DW adventures around Maui, pm me.  He's not a social media kind of guy.

Anyway lots of fun.  He was just out with his family goofing off while his son was busting his gut racing.  Here's a pic off Black Rock.  Scaling the cliff from the water wasn't as easy as when I was younger and after I shot them, I had to throw the cam down to them and jump.  Had sworn off risk taking many years ago but suddenly found myself stuck.  Seemed safer than crawling down.   His daughter embraces these leaps with total abandon.  Aside from regular arching forward leap, like the human cannonball, she also did a back flip from that height.

She's one hell of an athlete, and she still heals quickly. You don't, you knucklehead. You screw yourself up so you can't surf and/or downwind this year and we'll give you endless shit while you're on the beach.

Then again, I probably would have jumped too.

Who is the bald-headed geezer and why aren't his hands on his nuts where they belong.

From some of what I've seen Connor do, I think he gave his testicles to his son...... ;D

It's high enough that you don't want to screw up your landing.  If you do you'll feel it.  According to the movie footage I took it was 2.3 secs from launch to impact so there is probably a formula for figuring it out.  (PBill?)  Until then maybe this angle will help you see the height.  (Stills off video)

S=1/2at**=1/2 (32*2.3**) = 84 feet

The velocity of your testicles hitting the water is

V=at = 32*2.3 = 73 feet per second or 50 mph. That sound you hear when you hit the water with legs spread is your nuts hitting your diaphragm

In the second to last picture Keith looks like he's trying to run back up onto the rocks.

If i had to guess that would have been mine... 70-80 feet.  Good mental training for winter drops.

Worse than the jump is heart failure.  Like slow mo makes everything cooler, so does underwater....
