Two questions:

1.  How do you see the waves coming?  Sure it lights up the water right next to you, but that won't help seeing and catching waves. 

2.  How do you change the batteries?

It would make good running lights if you were paddling in a harbor at night.  You are certainly visible with those, no one would run you over in a boat.

That's like driving a car at night, with no headlights on, but all the interior lights on so you can have a party on the inside, never mind what going on in front of the car, that doesn't matter.
It takes a quiver to do that.

No way that makes sense other than looking cool...in an underlit low rider kind of way.... ::).

If I was going to go night surfing it would make more sense to have a LED headlamp mounted front and rear.
