Proners swarmed our SUP peak - now I know why....
« on: September 19, 2014, 06:59:56 PM »
Thursday morning saw a big change in our SUP dominate break. I thought it was the perfect swell that rolled in from Hurricane Edouard.... BUT, there might just be another reason. ;)

A group of my surfer friends were at their usual remote break on Wednesday.... 4 x 4 access only.

Wednesday night, my buddy was telling me how a small plane started circling them and dipping it's wings.... ah oh.... spotter plane for the shark research vessel.

The shark boat steams up and starts pointing under them.

This is the picture the plane took of the scene. Yikes....

I guess the next day, they wanted to surf with a bunch more people  ;D ;D ;D

Nice to see that Whitey was more interested in the seals it was stalking.

That thing is enormous. Did they give a size estimate? Looks like he could eat all the seals and not be full.

Cheat... all of our GW's seem to be big... most of the ones they tag are 14 to 18 feet. They tagged 7 in one day last month.

We really don't see them. They are stealth. They didn't see that one till the boat pointed to it. I just don't think about them ;D

Did you see Danni Schmidt and Travis's video on FB? They were fishing 15 miles out and had two big ones circling the boat. The got go pro footage from in the water.

Down Maryland way, Edouard did not need help from Whitey ...two civilians died in the shorebreak.  Like Blue, I'd rather not know ..but about once a season I step on something in deep water that tests my reflexes.

Chilling.  The out of control seal population is really changing things along those sandy shores.

Well I guess the photo is a good deterrent for the traveling surfer hoard.

Counterbalance to all the epic shots you've been posting  ;)
