Coiled leash redux
« on: September 16, 2014, 09:22:02 PM »
So a straight leash has always been my deal in the surf but thought I'd try the coil this recent south swell.  Got one with the straight section and pull back wasn't as pronounced as others have posted but the thing got jumbled into knots and I'm sure it ended up being more drag than a straight one dragging in the water.

I use a full coil pretty much all the time  Rarely does it get tangled and knotted but sometimes it will. There is no pull back  the coils don't contain enough energy to even pull themselves up when hanging loose straight down,   but it does cut the drag way down

I was wondering why you had the coiled leash. I have your straight leash!  I can't stand the coiled leases in the surf.

I use OAM coiled leash in small surf when not expecting big pulls.
The coil with knee attach is a very free almost leashless feel.

No big pulls, no tangles, no worries.  If you're gonna yank them,
they'll tangle.

I use a straight leash in surf and a coiled in WW (Don't want a big loop draggin').  Seems both work for me in each app.  I tried a coiled in surf.  It coiled alright.  Around itself, around my ankle, around my knee.  No thanks.

I've tried it a couple times and don't like it. I like a straight leash the same length as the board.

I got the FCS one - part coil, part straight. Disliked it at first but it's loosened up and it's not noticeable now. At first it twisted up but not much now- at the end of each session as I'm getting out I take it off my ankle, hold on to the cuff, and let the whitewater take the board - that gets the twists out.
