BlkBox - Uno vs. Sidewinder
« on: September 14, 2014, 05:15:47 PM »
Looking to purchase my first race board.

I'm looking at the two boards from BlkBox.  Wondering what everyone's thoughts are.
Also considering the Bark dominator and eliminator.

I'm 200lbs.

I'll be racing mostly flatwater.

Thanks for the help.

Hello, I've been a team rider for Blkbox since 2010 and was involved in the development of the sidewinder and Uno.  I think they are very different from the Barks in that they have more of a piercing nose design and are much more responsive in terms of foot steering and subtle trim changes.  Both designs accelerate quickly and like to be driven a little weight forward.  I tend to paddle in a slightly staggered stance.  A person who puts the majority of their power in the front 3rd of their stroke will like the acceleration and the drive qualities of these boards.

The sidewinder is generally seen as more of a flatwater board.  The custom shaoes have had an aggressive entry, low volume front third and a round cross section than the uno.  The uno has more planing area, a wider tail, rails designed to allow some surfing and a fuller entry.

That said, both models have some subtle redesigns for 2015 and new blanks are arriving in the shop next week.  Facebook Blkbox Surf or pm me for more contact info.  Thanks.

Rob

Here's a sidewinder withva classic entry this past winter.
