As my Grandmother always said, "If you can't laugh at it, then the hell with it." She died happy.

Fixed one of the distorted doors, I'm reasonably pleased with the outcome though I know that chasing after mistakes never really pays. I mainly wanted to see if there was a simple and light way to do it. I made a frame from screen window frame material--wimpy box section aluminum--and then riveted it onto the back of the door. I had to set the rivets deep to get a good hold on the frame material, so they're dimpled on the door--yet another flaw. When I was building nero I got good enough at riveting to be able to do it without "smiles" and without dimpling. I've obviously taken a few steps backwards.

I also did a cute little dimensional patch to cover the original fingerhole. It's mostly playing around, but it reinforces my determination to start doing this stuff right, no matter how long it takes. I'm going to play around with some art deco style fixtures--like a helmet holder, and charging station for my battery tools inside the trailer. I was also thinking of doing Jamey Jordan-style  ( http://www.handmadeseatco.com/seats/ ) bomber couches facing each other in the living section that could convert to a bed by dropping the table, but the current full-width couch works too well. Instead I think I"m going to try something really whacky and make bomber-style folding chairs and a folding table. Completely outside the basic idea of these kind of designs, but that makes it automatically cool.

I have to back-burner all this and do the prep work to make Peyote ready for another racing season before I leave for Maui. I need to have a lot of crack-checking done on critical suspension parts, and the engine needs a little refresh--hopefully just rings, a valve touch up, and new rod bearings. Might need to take a look at the clutch and transmission too.

I plan to combine passions a little and stop off to visit Randy Grubb on the way down to the BOP. His shop is in Grant's Pass. I doubt he really remembers me, but he's willing to show me around his shop and talk about what he's up to now. Should be fun.

Stopped off at Randy Grubbs shop http://www.randygrubb.com/  and had a really fun visit, looking at his new projects and learning about the machines he's got. I'm going to have to scale up my hardware to do the kind of stuff he's doing. At the least I need a monster shrinker and stretcher like he has. Lovely machine but lots of money. The dies cost more than my current equipment. I almost blew off the visit, I was going up the coast and didn't want to take a huge detour getting home, but Google Maps showed me a route that was straight line and hardly added time or distance, and turned out to be a lovely drive.

I didn't shoot any pictures, he didn't seem comfortable with that.

Front wheel drive--it's based on a GMC motorhome. They kind of suck in sand. Nearly impossible to drive those bogie wheels in the back, except maybe electrically.

The shop was awesome. Messy like me, so I really liked that. Admin would have a panic attack.

Wow, thanks PB for the Randy Grubb link, true works of automotive art.
Now I know where that Decoliner came from that Barry Weiss drove on one of the episodes of Storage Wars.  When I saw that, it struck me as one of the most amazing things I'd ever seen on wheels, just beautiful.

That would be fun. I think I'd rather get back into Leno's garage, though I think even Leno's place was probably more fun before it all got spiffed up. I like that he has guys working on stuff at his garage. I think Bruce is just a collector, and the things that show up in his collection are kind of static. Still...

Cool article, I didn't know that the '57 TRC was owned by a drug lord.  I knew it was a sealed bid action when he bought it.

Those guys are amazing. They've spent their life getting that good. It's what it takes--way more than 10,000 hours. Randy Grub has a different approach--he's an artist. He spent 30 years blowing glass, and then switched to aluminum. Interesting guy and very fun to talk to. He's going to sell his replica GT40 to work with a guy who has all the old Maclaren stuff to build an 8F. I'd love to drive a wings and slicks McLaren or any flavor, but I'm pretty sure I'd kill myself.
