If you have seen "That First Glide", what do you think?  Is it worth $25 to buy and watch?

I own it.  Not worth the $25 in my opinion but it's also a few years old.  It was pretty good when it first came out.  I guess $25 is not too bad considering it was one of the first SUP movies to be made and the market is so small that they can't just give it away.  You can have my copy if you want to pay shipping, or if you're in southern OC, come grab it!

I would look for a used copy. I paid less when I bought my copy new, but truth is I didn't watch it more than a handful of times and eventually sold it on to another Zoner. The same with H2Indo. I've yet to come across a surf movie (other than Surf's Up) that I feel the need to hang on to. The ones I have are headed to ebay soon, and I'm sure I'll go through the same cycle when H2Mexico comes to DVD.

Well worth it IMO… Awesome film.

Is there any news on Mike doing a second glide film?

It's a good watch...other than the fact they didn't get the history quite right...and, it's obviously slanted more Oahu-centric than Maui...IMHO...
I'd pull the trigger for the archival footage...if nothing else than to support the genre...NOBODY is even breaking even on making these sorts of movies...talk to
Craig Stecyk...and, a whole bunch of others that I could list...but, won't...;-)

Seriously...$25 won't buy you a good pizza these days...and, that ain't the reason that I don't eat pizza no more...;-)

I have the video; think this video is very special.  I have taken the video to a number of friends' houses to watch and, even though they are not yet paddlers, they really loved the film.  As I understand it, a person was hired to narrate the film; but after viewing Mike Waltze used his own voice to narrate.  In the end I think this work resembles The Endless Summer with Bruce Brown - combine with the footage of Gerry Lopez, Kai, Alyssa and her friends - well, it is just so good.  Makes me want to watch it again, right now.

If it helps any in making a decision, the movie is not HD and is letterboxed in 4:3 (if memory serves).

I like it.  If I lost my copy I'd buy it again for $25.

I'm looking forward to H2Mexico.  Anybody know when it's coming out on DVD?

Their facebook page says, "end of September we will have info on this site where you can download or buy a dvd."

I bought it a few years back, when I first got interested in paddling. It was winter in the Gorge, cold, dark and damp and we'd just gotten back from Maui. I was a little depressed to be back in Winter and the film was  a welcome diversion. I still watch it even now, even when it's warm and I'm paddling all the time. The movie remains an inspiration for me.

I have probably watched it more than a dozen times. I dig the soundtrack and the film puts standup paddling completely in context. The movie covers some of the history of paddling from 'wave sliding' in Polynesia to the development (by Waikiki Beach boys) and redevelopment (Laird, Brian K, DK and others) of standup paddling in modern times. I like how the movie covers all aspects of paddling, from flatwater, racing, surfing, downwinding, and just fun and fitness paddling. It is shot in Hawaii and Namotu (Fiji) and there is a LOT of incredible footage. The only thing I don't think the movie covers is whitewater river paddling.

Anyway, that's my version of Siskel and Ebert, I give it two thumbs up and thought it was well worth $24. Your mileage may vary.

I've been watching surf movies since I was a kid going to the American
Legion hall to see the seasons new release.  Later I was getting videos
of underground north shore when I was living in Hawaii and have the
complete Runman collection.

I guess what I'm blabbering about is that they always get my money.
Some vids I'll rewatch a lot.  This one is a nice film to see with none
surfers to share the stoke.  Have yet to see a sup movie that really
grabs me.
