There was carbon under the feet with this one mind you .......

Was it really carbon? Many people call the netting carbon. It is not.

Pretty sure that this is two layers of carbon fiber on each side....

...that happens to be a friend's board who's lighter than I, and mine carries three layers.

And yes, all of the boards that this guy does are custom ordered, all include a deck pad that covers those patches, so there is no aesthetic value concern, as they're not sold in stores anywhere, nor sitting in a rack.

I'm no shaper, but enjoy being educated by this discussion.  My question here is whether such small areas really provide protection from pressure dents.  Wouldn't you need to have a larger sheet of continuous carbon?  Would such small patches really make that big a difference in distributing the load if they're just laying on top of fiberglass?  Seems like there'd still be a weak spot pretty close to where you generally stand.  If one is going to the effort and expense of putting CF on there, why not just put a full band across the deck?

Those patches would be effective. Think of them like a pair of snow shoes. Pressure dents overall are no bueno. Over time the foam under the deck will start to break down and collapse further. The foam does not have a lot of strength under compression especially over a small surface area.
