SupCheat Surfs Vimeo Tryout
« on: August 25, 2014, 12:56:08 AM »
First effort artsy fartsy selfy video things.  Note to makeup and costume department:  white sunblock makes me look like a zombie, and the impact vest makes me look more pregnant than I am.

This day was full of reasonable 4 foot waves, but also big chop, wind and crowds, none of which seem to show up in the vid. I was mostly caught on the inside and every time I stood up the wind blew me back to Privates. Considering how many waves there were, I had bad luck on this day.

Anyway, learned some things from making the vid on Mac Mini with iMovie. Should do better with practice.

Right On ! ! !
I know how much work that is.
But a fun learning curve...

Hopefully more on this later?

Thanks, guys.

The iMovie video editor isn't too bad.  Lessons learned: don't take long segments, because you have to pick through them for the "good" parts, take shorter segments when you think the stuff is going on.

I think a combo of a chest/helmet/face mount and paddle mount that can be interchanged.  The board mount seems to be "all balls" or "all butt".  Just the paddle mount has long, boring stretches of wobbly paddling.

SupCheat, You are paying your dues! Most people will never go out and try to surf. You are there, getting better everyday and I bet, having the time of your life. Thanks' for sharing. The video editing is so time consuming. It was fun the first few times, but I've been avoiding it lately.
It's not overhead to me!
8'8" L-41 ST and a whole pile of boards I rarely use.

You may have struggled a bit, but you caught a few, I'd call that a win.  Nice work!

Thanks for editing that out..

Too much of that could definitely result in cardiac arrest in the vulnerable.

My balance was actually OK on that choppy, windy day, but the fall-offs over the two hour session were some of the only interesting things that happened so they are well represented.

I was smiling and not at the butt humor.  Your stoke.  You've been surfing
for how long?  Dude, sorry,  I mean Karl, your stroking into and cruising a
pointbreak!
Loved your well adjusted ego, you showed it all from bails to coiled leash
to Pocahontas.  You should share this in the stoke section.

Carl

You are rockin!  Appreciate you sharing the stoke.  I remember not too long ago, the video would have looked different, you have made HUGE progress.  And you've progressed to a smaller board... I am still on my 12' Pearson Arrow on small days and 10'3" Hammer on 'big wave' days... that is, those days when I still judge I can get in and out of the water alive.

I've been on the road for a couple of weeks, but this coming week hope to be out there again, starting with Friday a.m. dawn patrol at Sharks.

I know I won't see you that early, but your perseverance is an inspiration.  Stoked for life!

Thanks, Paul

Maybe we can swap boards if we cross paths at some time in the morning.  You look like you handle them very well.  You might be surprised how easy the 9 foot board is to manage, it is 32 3/4" wide so only the pitch is different.

My neighbor is lighter by weight, but he thought it would be difficult at 9", and when he tried it, it was like a barge for him compared to his 10'6" 29 3/4" Pearson Laird and he was expert on it right away.

Loved it cheat ! But, I kinda miss your helmet  ;)

Stoke is stoke, and you have it! Your humor and honesty are much appreciated on the Zone and I look forward to future videos.

Thanks, supthecreek, high praise from one of the resident GoPro wizards.

The original helmet and vest were stolen when I left them unattended for a short time.  I have a new, white helmet, will see about getting some kind of lashing for the camera later.

My neighbor went out to Pleasure Point the same day.  We were commiserating about how there were so many waves, but wind, crowds, getting caught on inside white water and swell/chop made them so inaccessible.  He said he only got one wave.  If you stood up, you were blown away from the break.  The swell made turning and stepping back hard, the crowds meant the waves were likely occupied by competing proners, or there were dangleberry newbies inside on the surf freeway, and the wind/ inside breaks made getting back out a study in frustration.  I guess I was lucky that I got a handful.
