Who remembers Mike Purpus

I surfed with Mike Purpus and Annie yesterday..
Pretty cool...

He is 65 now and still rips

I remember him he was cool and one of my favorites when I was young. On a similar note a few years back I was surfing with my son and this "old guy" to him paddles over and asks how do you like that board. he was riding a robert August. My son says it's really nice the guy says cooL  and paddles away >  I  paddle over to my son an ask if he knows who that was? He says No. I just point to the name on his board and as the reality dawns on him  a slow big wide grin comes over his face.... One of his best surf stories ever!!

I idolized Mike Purpus as a kid...he was one of surfing's first superstars.  He lived the life and loved to show it off. I remember pictures of him driving expensive cars with boards on the roof.   Luckily he could back it up with his surfing

My last sighting of him tearing it up long board style was before the death of doho. I like it better when it was a surf spot
and not a harbor.

I remember surfing V Land in 73 and he and Angie Reno were out surfing naked trying to get into Playgirl Mag. They each had their own photogs and it got "interesting" to say the least....
